Dr. J won't be there, but a slew of other talent will compete in the ABA All-Star festivities at 3 p.m. Saturday at the BankAtlantic Center.

A 3-point shooting contest and a dunk contest are scheduled first, with the actual All-Star Game following shortly after.

Among the All-Stars selected are Florida Pit Bulls point guard Tim Hardaway and forward Terence Shelman. Two other Pit Bulls players also are partaking in the revelry. Pitbulls guard/forward Bobby St. Preux will participate in the dunk contest, and guard Marcus Barnes will fire away in the 3-point contest.

Other notable players include forward Chandler Thompson and guard Shawn Fountain from the league-leading Indiana Alleycats. Socal Legends coach Gary Grant will coach the West All-Stars, and Alleycats coach Greg Graham will coach the East.

Doors open at 2 p.m. Tickets start at $15. A broadcast of the game can be heard live by logging on to www.abalive.com.

A free Kid's Fan Jam will precede the event at 1:30 p.m. in the BankAtlantic Center concourse area. It will feature autograph signings, face painting, magic show, moon jump and high school "Battle of the Bands."

ABA- The American Basketball Association

The ABA existed from 1967 to 1976 -- for nine full seasons. During that time, the ABA fought a bitter war with the established National Basketball Association (the NBA) for players, fans, and media attention. In June 1976, the two rival pro leagues finally made peace. Four NBA teams (New York Nets - now called New Jeresy Nets, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, and San Antonio Spurs) came from ABA.The biggest star in ABA were Dr. J - Julius Erving and  Moses Malone. The other remaining ABA teams (such as the Kentucky Colonels, the Spirits of St. Louis, and the Virginia Squires) vanished, along with the ABA itself. This league was the history of the game of Basketball.

ABA is reborn and become a minor league.  The ABA continues to be innovative in its approach to bring fast-paced, fan-friendly, exciting basketball to true fans. The game has evolved and so has the rules. The ABA combines FIBA and Pro rules to create the best show for the fans. The ABA was the creators of the 3 point shot (now used by the NBA and other leagues). The ABA now has a rule focusing on defense called the 3D. Learn about their unique rules here and how they plan on making the game more fun and exciting. In the ABA they're "Havin' a ball™"

SOME UNIQUE ABA RULES

Four (4) twelve (12) minute quarters
24-second shot clock
No "One & One" free Throw Situations
Penalty of two shots on the 8th team foul of each quarter
All successful field goals from the backcourt are FOUR points
Must be BEYOND the division line (Foot Cannot Be On The Division Line)

果d已經係歷史lu.... 而家既ABA真係廢得幾緊要!!

The New ABA (2000-2002, 2003-present)
A new American Basketball Association was formed in the late 1999 and played from 2000 to 2002. The league suspended operations after the 2002 season, but resumed play in 2003-2004.

The league undertook a new business model upon its return, resulting in an ambitious expansion program beginning with its 2004-2005 season. Virtually anyone willing to pay the league's expansion fee ($ 10,000 or $ 20,000, depending on when you "applied") was awarded an ABA franchise.

The expansion has had chaotic results, with many teams failing to meet their financial obligations and folding during the course of the season, others being forced to cancel games and curtail their schedules, and the playoff format being revised several times because teams that qualified were failing to appear for games. Despite these problems, a new round of expansion for 2005-2006 has occurred. 47 teams were scheduled to begin play for the 2005-06 season. One team never started the season, and within the first six weeks of the season, 7 of those teams had folded (or left the league). Another 6 were gone by the end of January, with several more teams considered to be in danger of folding by the end of the season. It has been reported that several teams are fulfilling their road dates by organizing a pickup team of former players who live near the host site, while other teams simply are refusing to travel at all.

順帶一提,Tim Hardaway 而家隊波其實同Miami Heat係同樣位處 South Florida。佢仲係教練兼球員添!
