Buffon already won the goalkeeping awards in the world cup final and he just concedes two goals in world cup final. Buffon also did well for Juventus before they relegated. Lehmann also a good choice as he set a new champion league record for not conceding goals for 853 minutes but I think the performance in the world cup final is more important than in champion league. Beside that Lehmann did not help Arsenal to win the champion league but Buffon did help Italy win the world cup. Other goalkeeper like Palop, Coupet and Cech did very well for their clubs but not their countries. I think good performance for the club and country is very important.
Right-Back: Juliano Belletti
Belletti help Barcelona to win the title and champion league and more important is he score the winning goal against Arsenal. Although he not play very well for his country but his performance for Barcelona is more than enough. Another player did very well is Zambrotta. He helps Italy to win the world cup and score a stunning goal against Ukraine. But he is not a natural right-back so I think he won’t win the award. Other players like Alves and Eboue is did well for their club helping them to go into UEFA cup final and champion league final but they not did very well for their country. Sagnol is another strong candidate helping France to the final in the world cup but he did not play very well for Bayern and only help Bayern into the quarter final in champion league. Although help them to win the league last season but this season performance is not good enough.
Center-Back: Fabio Cannavaro and John Terry
Cannavaro surely get a place in the team of the year. He already won the European Footballer, World Soccer's World Player of the Year and FIFA World Player of The Year. He also helps Italy win the world cup and did very for Juventus before they relegated. Another center-back is Terry. Terry help Chelsea retain their title and play every match for England in world cup. Although England only reach quarter but he did very well and more important is he is England captain now. Other players like Ayala, Cris, Marquez, Toure and Puyol did very well for their club. Some help their club to win the title but their performance in world cup is not good enough. Materazzi did very well for club and Italy but his reaction in final of the world cup is really bad and I think that is not acceptable. Gallas and Thuram is strong candidate. Both of them play very well for their club and country. But I think Terry deserves a place in the team of the year.
Left-Back: Fabio Grosso
Help his country to win the world cup and his club Palermo to get a Champion League qualification. Not many strong candidates, Abidal, Bronckhorst, Arruabarrena play well but not as well as Grosso. For Lahm, playing very well for his club and country but still very young. Maybe next year he will get his chance.
Right-midfield: Cristiano Ronaldo
These are the hardest choice of the whole team. Gerrard play very well for Liverpool and score the winning goal in FA cup final. He also plays well for England, score two goals in World Cup Final group stages. Messi also a good player who help Barcelona to win the champion league and become the youngest player to score in the 2006 World Cup. But he is still very young and need more experience. He will get his chance in the coming years. Ribery also plays well in this year. Not very good performance for his club but his performance in World Cup Final is very superb and eye catching for his scar. Gattuso probably the weakest candidate. His performance for his club and country is not very eye catching enough. His performance only can say is average. Although Ronaldo did not help MU and Portugal to win the title and World Cup but his performance is very eye catching especially his tricks. Not like two or three years back where he easily dive and play too many tricks. He is mature now and plays tricks whenever possible, he now can score goals and assists to his team mate.
Central-midfield: Andrea Pirlo
Pirlo help Italy to win the World Cup and he name three man of the match out of six world cup matches. One of three is the final. He also play well for his club before the tapping incident. Another strong candidate is Makelele. He helps Chelsea to win the title for second time and he also helps France to reach World Cup final. Frings is another good choice. He plays well for Germany in World Cup and score a stunning goal in the first match of the World Cup. He also plays well for his club Werder Bermen, helping them to get into champion league and “winter champion “this season. Fabregas and Diarra also playing well this year especially Fabregas who help Arsenal get into champion league final while Diarra help Lyon to win their title before move to Madrid this summer. But both of them too young and their performance for their country is not as good as other candidate.
Attack-midfield: Deco
These are another difficult choice in the team. Everyone is a world class player and they play well this year. Ballack play well for Bayern before moving to Chelsea and playing quite well for Chelsea. Beside that he helps Germany to reach semi-final in the World Cup and name two man of the match. He currently already scores three goals for Germany in the UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying. Riquelme, another star player for Villarreal, helping them to get into champion league semi-final. Although he miss a spot kick for Villarreal in the semi-final but his overall performances is very good. He also play well for Argentina in the World Cup but he retired from national team after not appoint as captain make him lost many votes. Pernambucano, a free kick specialist who help Lyon to win the title. Beside from his club he also plays well for Brazil in the World Cup and score a goal against Japan. Kaka is a strong candidate who plays really well for Milan and Brazil. He is well known of his passing skills and his long shot power. Although he play well but he did not help Milan and Brazil to win any cup this year. Other than that his club is struggling in the Serie A. For the attack-midfield I vote for Deco who helps Barcelona to win champion league and the league title. He also won the Most Valuable Player Award for his superb performances in the champion league. Although he did not help Portugal to win the World Cup and he get a red card in World Cup but his performances is not bad.
Left-midfield: Ronaldinho
Ronaldinho is sure getting his place in the team of the year. He is another exciting player like Ronaldo and he also well known of his tricks and free kick. He helps Barcelona to win the champion league and league title. He also is scoring some crucial goal in the champion league. Although he cannot help Brazil to win the World Cup but his performance for both club and country is very impressive. I think the strongest candidate is Schweinsteiger. He is a good long shot player. He already scores many stunning goals for his club and country. He helps Bayern to win the title and Germany to reach semi-final in the World Cup. He also already scores some goals in the UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying for Germany. But he still young to get a place in the team of the year. Other candidates like Sorin, Malouda and Correia are playing some good football this year but they not deserve a place in the team of the year.
Forward: Miroslav Klose and Thierry Henry
Klose is the World Cup 2006 top scorer and he also scoring many goals for Bermen. He helps Bermen to win “winter champion” for this year and he also play well for his country in both World Cup and the UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying. His partner is Henry. Henry helps Arsenal and France to reach champion league final and World Cup final. He is Arsenal top scorer since he joins them in year 1999. Other candidates like Larsson, Kanoute, Huntelaar, Villa, and Shevchenko is play well for their club but not their country. The strongest candidates is Drogba, Toni and Eto’o play well for their club and country especially Toni who become the first player to score 30 league goals in 47 years. He also helps Italy win in the World Cup. Dorgba also play well this year, help Chelsea to win the title and play well for Ivory Coast in the World Cup. Eto’o another excellent finisher in the year 2006. He helps Barcelona to win title and champion league and he also become to Spanish Liga and African Nations Cup top scorer. But unfortunately he injured and may out until next year. So I think his chance will be very small.
Coach: Marcelo Lippi
I think this is the easy choice. Lippi sure will get the coach of the year. Not his competitor not good but he is too good. Winning the World Cup is not easy but he did it with Italy. If compare to Brazil, England, Argentina, Germany and other countries Italy is not the strongest but with the tactic use by Lippi, Italy become the strongest team and win the World Cup. Rijkaard and Wenger also did a very good job for their club. Winning title and champion league while Wenger bring Arsenal into champion league final but their achievement is not good enough compare to Lippi. Klinsmann and and Ramos is just began their management day with Germany and Sevilla respectively. So although they help their team perform help in the World Cup Final and Spanish Liga, they are to early to get the place in the team of the year.
These are just my choice and opinion.I want to share with you all and not want to get points.
