The interior of the new Volvo S60 has been teased, ahead of the car's launch at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The darkened images of the interior are shown in a promotional video, and appear to show a standard Volvo layout.

OfficialVolvo S60 exterior pictures were released montsh ago, as part of thepublicity drive surrounding the Swedish car maker's buyout by Geely, which is expected to be confirmed in the next two weeks.

The newcar is very similar to the S60 Concept, retaining the low, coupe-styleroof line. The front end, in particular, is nearly identical – onlysmall changes to the shape of the lights and a higher bonnet linedifferentiate the production car.

Underneath the bodyshell theS60 is based on the Ford EUCD platform that is also used by the currentMondeo. Volvo is promising that the S60 will be the “sportiest and mostdynamic Volvo ever,” and the project’s engineers are understood to havebeen working on the driveability of the S60 since the project’sinception.

A Volvo source said that the firm knew the previouscar couldn't match the likes of the 3-series and the C-class, and thatto successfully compete with these rivals driver appeal is crucial.

Unlikethe previous S60, the new car is more conventionally sized to giveVolvo a true rival for the likes of the BMW 3-series. The old car wasawkwardly-sized between a 3-series and 5-series, and was based on acut-down V70 platform, although it was a sales success in the first fewyears of the car’s life. There was no estate version, either, butexpect the new S60 to get an estate variant in 2011.

The carwill also be the first Volvo to be available with the firm’s newPedestrian Detection technology, which can “see” pedestrians in theroad and automatically apply the brakes to stop the car if the driverdoesn’t react quickly enough.

The Volvo S60 is scheduled to go on sale in the UK from September.
