Report: GM Paxson will be fired4/6/2005, 12:13 p.m. ET

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Cavaliers already have fired their coach. Their general manager could be next.
ESPN.com reported that owner Dan Gilbert will fire general manager Jim Paxson within 48 hours of Tuesday night's 111-80 loss to New Jersey. The report cited unnamed sources.
Gilbert wouldn't comment on Paxson's job security following the team's worst home loss in four years.
"I don't think it makes sense to comment on the truth or inaccuracy of rumors related to key positions in our organization," Gilbert said in a statement.
Gilbert, founder of Quicken Loans, heads an ownership group that took control of the team March 1. The Cavaliers fired coach Paul Silas three weeks later after the team took a dive in the standings.
"Nothing has been said to me," Paxson told the Akron Beacon Journal. "I'm not going to go by an ESPN report. I approach my job the same way; all the speculation is the nature of my business. I'll do my job until I'm told I'm not doing it anymore."
LeBron James was obviously upset with the team's worst loss in Cleveland since a 35-point blowout by New York on March 20, 2001.
"There's no reason we should be losing like this on our home court," James said.
The struggling Cavaliers (38-35) have fallen to the seventh playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and it won't get any easier for them.
They play at Indiana Wednesday night without center Zydrunas Ilgauskas, who dislocated his right ring finger during Tuesday's loss. He will be re-evaluated after swelling in the finger subsides.
