近期曼聯飽受傷兵困擾，而僅有「健康」正選後衛里奧費迪南，日前接受曼聯電視台訪問時就表示，阿倫史密夫是隊長堅尼的最佳繼任人選，而終有一天阿倫史密夫會跟堅尼一樣成為「紅魔鬼」的重心球員。
暑假期間領隊費格遜未能在外界找到一名接替隊長堅尼的繼任人，於是費格遜就在球隊陣中選了阿倫史密夫這名較年輕的英格蘭前鋒，去充當堅尼的繼任人。而近期因為堅尼受傷，阿倫史密夫得到了很多上陣機會。
對於阿倫史密夫近期的表現，隊友里奧費迪南在訪問中表示：「阿倫史密夫不斷在進步。當然要他完全能替代堅尼在曼聯的作用，還需要一段時間。但阿倫史密夫是一位很有天分和很努力的球員，相信在不久的將來，阿倫史密夫一定可以像堅尼一樣成為『紅魔鬼』的支柱。」 [color=Red][b]李察遜續約四年[/b][/color]

剛度過廿一歲生日的曼聯年青球員李察遜續約球會四年，將效力至二零零九年。
曾四次代表英格蘭上陣的李察遜，上季外借至西布朗表現出色，今季回到曼聯效力。
「我很高興未來繼續在曼聯效力。這裡是我唯一希望效力的地方。」李察遜對球會官方網站表示。
李察遜首次替英格蘭上陣，是五月對美國的友賽，該仗他個人連中兩元。雖然西布朗希望再度將他外借，但他決定留在曼聯。

Edwin van der Sar is very happy with the way he has started his Manchester United career.
The 34-year-old Dutchman has been hugely impressive since his summer switch from Fulham, but he does not want to get carried away.
