Manchester United are keen to sign £8m-rated Brazilian right-back Cicinho, who BBC Sport understands has flown to England for talks at Old Trafford. The 25-year-old Sao Paulo defender would not require a work permit as he qualifies for a European passport through his Italian grandfather.
Milan and Juventus have also been tracking Cicinho, who is tipped to replace Cafu in the national team.
But United seem in pole position to sign the player on a four-year deal.
Cicinho has been capped by Brazil six times and was impressive during the recent Confederations Cup.
Should he join United, it could signal the end for Gary Neville, whose brother Phil left the club to join Everton last week.
And it may go some way to appease fans concerned there is no money for transfers following Malcolm Glazer's takeover.

Originally posted by 迷途小羔羊 at 2005-8-11 05:25 PM:

Brazil international Cicinho admits that he is desperate to emulate his
idol, Cafu, by joining Milan.
Cicinho has already covered for Cafu at right full back at international
level, and his attacking style has prompted many comparisons between the two
players.
Now the 25-year-old has confessed his desire to once again follow in the
great Brazilian’s footsteps, although he also dreams of the two players
teaming up down the same flank.
“I want to play in Italy — it’s been my dream since I was a child,”
Cicinho told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I would like to play for AC Milan — they are the strongest team in
Europe.
“My friend Cafu is at AC Milan. He is my idol. I was just a baby when he
became a World Cup winner.
“It’s an honour for me to be considered his heir. It would be
extraordinary to take his place at AC Milan. But why couldn’t we play
together?
Cicinho is reported to have a buy-out clause in his contract, making a move
by Milan more than possible should they harbour an interest in the player

而家反口話去mu;) Manchester United have opened talks with Brazil international Cicinho.
Sir Alex Ferguson has apparently been impressed enough with the defender's performances in the Confederations Cup to launch a bid.
The Sao Paulo star has already flown in to Manchester to open talks, accompanied by his agent Juliano Leonel.
Cicinho claimed just a day ago that his dream was to play for Milan, following in the footsteps of his idol and Brazilian World Cup winning captain Cafu.
Milan, and fellow Italian giants Juventus are both amongst Cicinho's suitors, with both considering the 25-year-old right back a potential star.
Indeed, it is the Rossoneri that remain in pole position to sign the defender, who would be up against United stalwart Gary Neville should he plump for The Red Devils.
Cicinho has also been to Italy as he completed the forms that will allow him to pick up a European passport.
Meanwhile, United star Ruud van Nistelrooy has insisted that Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo can be world beaters.
Van Nistelrooy told MUTV that he is a hug fan of the pair - who have already had such a huge impact on the game.
"In a few years, those two will be dominating world football," said van Nistelrooy.
"They have such incredible quality. They are ahead of anyone in their world in their age group.
"Not only have they performed at the highest level domestically, they have also done it for their countries as well.
"They are so young, there is so much more time for them to improve.
"They can just get better and stronger every year. It is a fantastic feeling to play with great players and that is what they are." push
