Portugal's penalty hero Cristiano Ronaldo said Saturday after his side's quarter-final shootout victory over England that he has no intention of leaving Manchester United for Spanish giants Real Madrid.
'I don't want to leave. I said I like Real Madrid, I didn't say I want to leave,' said Ronaldo, who fired in the decisive goal in the penalty shootout, which decided the match after the sides failed to score in 120 minutes of football.
Ronaldo's comments follow a report in the Spanish newspaper Marca that he had been looking into negotiating a move to Real, if Spain's former finance minister, Juan Miguel Villar Mir, wins the club's presidential election.
But it is Ronaldo's coolness when taking his spot kick that made the news in Gelsenkirchen. England's Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher all had their efforts saved by Ricardo while Petit and Hugo Viana missed for Portugal.
'I felt very confident. It was a great decision,' said the United winger, who was a major doubt for the game after having to be substituted with a thigh strain the victory over the Netherlands in the previous round.
'The first half I felt really good. In the second half I felt very tired because I stopped training for nearly a week (after the injury).'
The 21-year-old said he saw no reason why his team couldn't go one better than the Portugal side of 1966, which went out at the semi- final stage to eventual World Cup winners England.
'Everything is possible. In football you never know,' he said.
Originally posted by kakeidevil at 2006-7-2 09:04 PM:

Cristiano Ronaldo insists there is no bad feeling between himself and Wayne
Rooney.
Rooney was upset with Ronaldo after being sent off during England's World
Cup quarter final defeat to Portugal on Saturday.
Rooney showed his anger with Ronaldo by pushing him after the winger
approached the referee following Rooney's foul on Ricardo Carvalho.
It was claimed that both players were at loggerheads as a result of the
incident and that Ronaldo could even be forced out of Manchester United.
Ronaldo has refuted the rumours and revealed he has cleared the air with his
Old Trafford team-mate.
"The things that have been said regarding me and my team-mate and friend
Rooney are incredible," said Ronaldo told www.gestifute.com.
"Between me and Rooney, there is absolutely no problem.
"I reiterate, no problem.
"At the end of the game, we sent each other some text messages and also
today. Between the two of us everything has been cleared.
"He wished me the best of luck in the World Cup. He told me we had a great
team and that if we continued to play like this, we would go far.
"He wasn't angry with me and moreover, he told me to completely ignore what
the English press has said, that all they wanted was to create confusion but
we are already used to that."
Ronaldo again pleaded his innocence that he was not to blame for Rooney's
sending off.
"I am not a referee and I don't have the power to send off a player," added
Ronaldo.
"I had nothing to do with the fact that the referee showed the red card."
The flying winger also rubbished talk that he will leave United for Real
Madrid this summer.
Real Madrid presidential candidate Juan Miguel Villar Mir claimed Ronaldo
was keen on joining the Spanish giants if he won control at El Santiago
Bernabeu.
Ronaldo has denied the reports and confirmed he is happy to return to
United.
"There have been comments published in which I reportedly said that I didn't
want to go back to Manchester United," noted Ronaldo.
"That is completely false, of course I want to go back.
"It's just typical of the English press but I don't lose any sleep."
Ronaldo also revealed that he asked Portugal boss Luiz Felipe Scolari if he
could take the final penalty in the shoot-out against England.
The 21-year-old kept his cool from the spot to book Portugal's place in the
semi-finals and he was always confident he could decide the outcome of the
game.
"When the decision was going to be taken on who will take the penalties, I
asked Scolari if I could take the last one," Ronaldo said.
"I like to take penalties and to score them.
"Why did I ask to be last? Because I like to take responsibility and because
I had a strong feeling that I was going to be the one to resolve the game."

Originally posted by 瑞比 at 2006-7-4 17:27:

Rooney And Ronaldo Make Peace
(from mu official website)Cristiano Ronaldo has denied claims he is at loggerheads with Wayne Rooney after Saturday's controversial World Cup clash.
England striker Rooney was dismissed for stamping on Portugal defender Ricardo Carvalho, although he was visibly irate at his club-mate's role in the incident.
Ronaldo made apparent his outrage at Rooney's stamp to the match referee, but has now revealed that he and his team-mate exchanged text messages shortly after the match to clear the air.
In an exclusive interview with the website of GesitFute - his representative agency - Ronaldo said: "I would like to make it clear that there is no problem at all between me and Rooney. No problem at all.
"At the end of the game, we exchanged a series of text messages just as we had on the day before. This reinforces that I have a fine relationship with Rooney.
"I would like to make it clear that there is no problem at all between me and Rooney. Between the two of us, everything is clear."
Cristiano Ronaldo on Wayne Rooney
"Between the two of us, everything is clear. In fact, he didn’t just send me congratulations for going forward in the World Cup, he also told me we have a great team, and if we carry on as we have, we will get a long way.
"He wasn’t angry with me, or about anything that happened. And moreover he told me to ignore the things written in the English press on this subject, they only want to stir things up. That’s how they are and we are used to it."
The 21-year-old star, whose side faces France in Wednesday's semi-final, also denied his influence in Rooney's dismissal.
He said: "How is it possible that I would get him sent off? I am not the referee with the power to send off anyone I want, nor do I have the ability to convince him to show cards.
"The referee produced the red card because he thought that he had to, and my participation in that was absolutely zero."
Rooney closes book on Ron row debate
(from mu official website)Wayne Rooney has attempted to end any remaining doubt that he and Cristiano Ronaldo have had a falling out.
The 20-year-old Reds forward was sent off in England's quarter final defeat against Portugal for a stamp on Ricardo Carvalho.
Ronaldo protested to the referee after the incident had taken place, but the Portuguese winger is adamant he wasn't trying to get Rooney sent off.
In a statement, Rooney said he was "gobsmacked" to have been sent off, but bears no grudge against his United team-mate.
"I want to say absolutely categorically that I did not intentionally put my foot down on Carvalho," said Rooney. "I bear no ill feeling to Cristiano but am disappointed he chose to get involved."
Referee Horacio Elizondo said Ronaldo didn't influence his decision to show Rooney a red card.
"It was violent play and therefore he got a red card," he told The Times. "People can say what they want [about Ronaldo] but this had absolutely no influence. For me it was a clear red card."
Rooney admitted his disappointment at being sent off in a World Cup, but also feels his honest style of play has been called into question.
"When the referee produced the red card I was amazed - gobsmacked," he said. "Obviously I'm bitterly disappointed to have been sent off in a World Cup finals match for England.
"I am of the same opinion now as I was at the time that what happened didn't warrant a red card. If anything, I feel we should have had a free-kick for the fouls committed on me during the same incident.
"If you ask any player - and indeed almost any fan - they will tell you that I am straight and honest in the way I play. From what I've seen in the World Cup, most players would have gone to ground at the slightest contact but my only thought then was to keep possession for England."
He paid tribute to rest of his team-mates for holding out and taking the game to penalties.
"I thought the England lads were awesome after I went off and the effort they put in was amazing," he said. "Truly if there was any justice England would now be preparing for a World Cup semi-final. Sadly, however, that is not to be in 2006."
