在上屆，費格遜經歷了執教曼聯以來最低潮，他們於分組賽最後一場不敵賓菲加出局。
而在過去七屆，曼聯奪得了一次冠軍，一次打入四強，三次打入八強及兩次晉身十六強。
上屆曼聯經歷了多年來最差勁的分組賽。只曾一次擊敗賓菲加，而兩對維拉利爾都互無紀錄，對里爾也只能一勝一負。
「經過上年，我們深深感受到在歐冠杯失敗的經歷。」

曼聯在分組賽將會與些路迪、賓菲加及哥本哈根同組。

夏格維斯不就去向表態

該名英格蘭國腳上周也在接受訪問時指自己有意到曼聯發展，不過拜仁慕尼黑態度強硬，表明無意將他出售。
夏格維斯未有於拜仁慕尼黑最近兩場比賽中上陣，而官方的理由為夏格維斯受感冒影響，夏格維斯指，他將會好好休養，並不會再公開討論自己的去留問題。

好爛orz Bayern Munich have reiterated their intention to keep hold of English midfielder Owen Hargreaves.
Manchester United are reportedly prepared to pay £17 million for the 25-year-old, but the Bavarian giants are refusing to budge.
Hargreaves is tied to Bayern until 2010 and Hoeness believes that an existing contract is a "sacred instrument."
Hoeness has insisted that he respects Hargreaves' desire to join The Red Devils, but is struggling to comprehend why he will not honour his contract.
"We found it legitimate (of Hargreaves) to say that he would like to play for Manchester," he told kicker magazine.
"And I like this player. But there is a contract and that is why I said to him: `Owen, I cannot understand that you can't accept that. Even if Manchester offer 30, 40 or 50 million'."
Hoeness also feels that United are used to getting their own way, and that Bayern's resistance has come as a shock to the Premiership side.
"I hear Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson has been saying they are very surprised that someone says no given how much money is involved." Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised Manchester United for their support through his three years out with injury.
The 33-year-old completed a dream comeback on Wednesday night to seal United's comfortable 3-0 win away at Charlton Athletic.
It was the super-sub's first senior goal for The Reds since September 2003 and has brought some closure to a horrific run of injuries, including three major knee operations.
Solskjaer took the chance to celebrate with United's visiting fans at The Valley, and has paid tribute to the club.
"I have been dreaming about this day and now it has finally arrived, I just feel relief," he explained.
"I waited a long, long time to celebrate with the fans after scoring a goal.
"The prospect of doing it was one of the major things that has motivated me over the past three years.
"Throughout all that time, the fans and the manager have supported me. They have shown patience and the gratitude I feel for that is difficult to put into words.
"Maybe in an ideal world, I would have scored the goal at Old Trafford. But that doesn't really matter. I have a goal on the board now - and that is the important one."
Solskjaer will forever be remembered in Old Trafford folklore for the commitment he has shown to the cause since joining from Molde 10 years ago.
He scored the injury-time winner in the miraculous 1999 UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich and believes the club can recapture some of the success of that era.
"We have the experience of losing for a couple of years but that has only put the hunger back into the team," Solskjaer enthused.
"We have a really young, fresh squad and the spirit is fantastic.
"The good thing is we also have depth. We were missing six players at Charlton, yet we still won comfortably.
"I reckon the manager has between 20 and 25 players to choose from, which means every time he picks a team he is leaving about 10 internationals out."

England midfielder Owen Hargreaves said Bayern Munich executives were aware of his continued interest in a transfer to Manchester United even if he realises they do not want to let him go home.
In an interview with Bild newspaper on Friday, Hargreaves said it was out of his hands whether the two clubs would be able to reach a deal by the Aug. 31 close of the transfer window but he made clear he has not given up hope of a transfer.
'I've given everything to Bayern Munich for the last nine years and I want to be treated with respect,' said Hargreaves, 25. 'I simply want it to be accepted that Manchester would be a great step for me.'
Canadian-born Hargreaves was voted England's best player at the World Cup finals in a poll by the Football Association.
He has been at Bayern since joining the club as a teenager in 1997 and his current contract runs through June 2010.
Bayern sporting director Uli Hoeness has criticised Hargreaves for publicly expressing his desire to go.
Hoeness has repeatedly rejected a reported offer of 25 million euros ($32 million) and said he wouldn't sell Hargreaves for 50 million euros.
'The manager doesn't want to let me go. That's his right,' said Hargreaves. 'But he knows exactly what I want.'
Asked by Bild if that was an immediate transfer, he said: 'It's simply a great challenge. I'm an England player, part of my family lives near Manchester. A lot of things come together.'
Hargreaves was hit with a 25,000-euro fine from Bayern this week for insubordination after he called the Manchester United offer 'simply fantastic'.
Hargreaves on Friday defended his decision to extend his contract last year to 2010 in Munich.
'It was a great honour for me at the time,' he said. 'In the meantime, a lot of things have developed for me in a different way. I have a great chance to become a key player for England.'
Hargreaves, whom Bayern hoped could fill a void left when Michael Ballack left for Chelsea, said he is not worried about being banished to the bench.
'The coach knows what I can do,' he said. 'And so do the fans. I always give everything I have. That won't change no matter where I play.'
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has threatened to report Manchester United to FIFA if they do not give up their pursuit of Hargreaves.
