left back Gabriel Heinze from Manchester United for 12 million euros.

The Spanish champions had been searching for an experienced left back, after
youngsters Marcelo and Miguel Torres both didn't impress in a preseason

Madrid were also woeful in defense in their 5-3 defeat against Sevilla in
the Spanish Super Cup last Sunday.
Heinze, who is 29 years of age, has already played in Spain, after
representing Real Valladolid in the 1997-1998 season and then again in the

Since then he has played for Sporting Lisbon, Paris Saint Germain, and his
latest club Manchester United.
The highly rated defender will be the fourth Argentine in Madrid's ranks,

The 29-year-old, who on Tuesday was told by a Premier League arbitration panel that he could not join Liverpool as he had wished, will sign for an undisclosed fee.
The La Liga champions announced the news on their official website. A statement said: "Real Madrid and Manchester United have reached an agreement for the transfer of Gabriel Heinze.
"The Argentinian will sign a contract for the next four seasons and will be immediately incorporated into Bernd Schuster's squad."
The move draws the curtain on three years at Old Trafford for the all-action left-back, who United signed for £6.9million from Paris Saint Germain in June 2004.
Heinze made 83 appearances for the Reds scoring four goals, including a fabulous first season that saw him collect the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award. Saha set for bench place
Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that Louis Saha could be on the bench for Sunday's must-win clash with Tottenham at Old Trafford.The French striker has not played since the Champions League semi-final defeat to AC Milan on 2 May because of a knee complaint which resulted in surgery over the summer.
Saha has now completed two full weeks training and is contention for a spot on the subs bench this weekend.
