1997-98 Man Utd Home Players Shirt

Pay a special attention to the kind of names & numbers used on a geniune shirt. Even though this is the starting season with the unified Premier League names & numbers, the names & numbers on this shirt are not the same as other teams.
That means, this shirt doesn't adopt the general type of Lextra Fuse-on names & numbers in player-size. The names size are much smaller than the original player-specification names ironing by Lextra. Why is it so? Just because there are two double top-sttiching joints running at 60-degrees slanting on the backside.
If the ordinary player-sized names made by Lextra are added, they will either cover on top of the double-top-stitching joints or casuing an excess curve-bending to the long-named player, say Sheringham, Beckham or Solskjaer.
Thus, a special not-for-sale shorter-sized names are adopted on the geniune shirts to avoid names "stepping" on the two stitching joints or causing a bigger curvature bending.

There can be two types of Premier League badges ironed on this shirt - for the season 98/99, the blue Premier League badges were adopted as Arsenal was the league champions for 97/98. For the season 99/00, the golden Premier League badges were adopted. The picture shows the match-worn version golden Premier League badge is longer than a credit card.
The above point should be known by most collectors. HOWEVER, not many people know about the following issue:
The home zippers players shirts from the treble season (blue badges ironed) have the Premier League names & numberings ironed in 2 LAYERS (black felt on bot--- and then white felt on top).
The home zippers players shirts from the 99/00 season (golden badges ironed) have the Premier League names & numberings ironed in 1 LAYER ONLY (white felt with black outer frame, both colors are on the same layer instead of one on top of the other).

The funny difference for this players shirt is:
Top: Replica shirt has longer SHARP sponsor logo, measured 28cm.
Right: Players shirt has shorter SHARP sponsor logo, measured 27cm.
It is a rumour that Premier League version players shirts even have logo of 26cm only.

First of all, make sure your mind is clear that this is the shirt from season 1999-2000, after Man Utd finished with treble in 1998-99. This is the Champions League shirt with the two-stars rather than one-star on.

Top: However, in all except two matches, Man Utd used the players shirts with the embroidery of "UEFA Champions League Winners 1999" above the UMBRO logo. There exists no texture differences at all for the ordinary matches players shirts and replicas.
Bot---: In the only two matches mentioned above, inclusive of the match against Marseilles, Man Utd used the special 2-stars players shirt WITHOUT the embroidery lines. These shirts are really once off and not made for replicas version.

Premier League version for season 2000/01 adopted the shinny transfer-type Premier League badges, names & numbers. UMBRO rhombus is bolded and registered mark (cirlced R) is bigger on players shirt and closer to the tip of the rhombus.
Recently I have heard about some guys "make up" the bigger circled R by themselves through un-stitching the replica version circled-R threads and then restitching a bigger one by computer embroidery. Note that the UMBRO rhombus is also bolded on the players shirt. That means, there is less space left in the filings area within the rhombus outline. Don't be misled by just the presence of bigger circled-R.

Just like the home players shirt and the third players shirt from season 2000/01, the difference on this players shirt lies in:
Left: Replica shirt has thinner UMBRO rhombus and the circled R is smaller and closer to the centre of the rhombus.
Right: Players Shirt has bolded UMBRO rhombus and the circled R is bigger and closer to the right-end tip of the rhombus.
Recently I have heard about some guys "make up" the bigger circled R by themselves through un-stitching the replica version circled-R threads and then restitching a bigger one by computer embroidery.
In fact the difference in size of the circled R is quite compicious if you take a close look for the front side of the shirts.

2000-2001作客落場版球衣 ;)

Just like the home players shirt and the away players shirt from season 2000/01, the difference on this players shirt lies in:
Left: Replica shirt has thinner UMBRO rhombus and the circled R is smaller and closer to the centre of the rhombus.
Right: Players Shirt has bolded UMBRO rhombus and the circled R is bigger and closer to the right-end tip of the rhombus.
Recently I have heard about some guys "make up" the bigger circled R by themselves through un-stitching the replica version circled-R threads and then restitching a bigger one by computer embroidery. Don't be misled by just the presence of bigger circled-R.

However, this third players shirt differs from the replica shirt counterpart in one more aspect:
Left: on a replica shirt, the outline threads of the club crest is less bolded and you can see that the red-devil is slimmer.
Right: on a players shirt, the outline threads of the club crest is more bolded and you can see that the red-devil is fatter.

Overall speaking, the players shirt is having bolder UMBRO, registered mark and club crest than replica shirt's.

First of all, there are never replica version manufactured for this silver colour goalkeeper shirt.

Unlike the other 2000-02 players shirts, this goalkeeper players shirt has the small registered-R mark like the replica shirts.

Van Der Gouw is a big-man wearing the size of XXXL!!!
There are no replicas available up to the size of XXXL.

2001 FA Charity Shield Version

It is not ridiculous for me to reverse the inner side of the shirt. The players shirt doesn't have the innovative reversible feature like the replica shirt. The inner side of the white-side is still a white side!! Thus, the centenary players shirt is a irreversisble shirt.

And owing to the irreversible nature of the players shirt, the inner side embroidered effect of the UMBRO logo and the club crest etc, can be see on the inner white side of the shirt.

Left:On the reversible replica shirt, the content tag is located at the golden patch instead of the rear black area.
Right: On the players shirt, the content tag is located a bit closer to the rear of the shirt and it's on the black area.

The white centenary players shirt has the collar information printed on the white surface inner-collar instead of the gold surface inner-collar for the replica shirt.

This seasons' players shirts of Man Utd have reverted to adopt the fuse-on type Premier League badges instead of the transfer type of last year.

2001-02 Champions League Version

Just like what I did for the white centenary players shirt, I am happy to reverse the inner side of this golden players shirt to show you all that the shirt is not reversible and it's made of one layer only.

The quality of the players shirt is absolutely better than the golden side replica shirt.
Left: UMBRO logo and motif is made of thin plastic layer felt on the shirt surface on replica shirt.
Right: UMBRO logo and motif is embroidered into the shirt surface on players shirt.

Left: Centenary circle and crest are made of thin plastic layer felt on the shirt surface on replica shirt.
Right: Centenary circle and crest are embroidered into the shirt surface on players shirt.

From the inner side of the players shirt, the embroidery effects are more conspicuous.

Top: Replica shirt has the ---afone sponsor ironed on the shirt surface made of thin plastic layer.
Middle: Players shirt has the ---faone sponsor made of raised-flock-embossment.
Bot---: From the view of the inner side of the players shirt, the effect of embossment is clearer.

Top: Replica shirt MUST have the "usage timing" tag in the rear-middle of the backside of the shirt.
Bot---: However, for player shirts, there are mixed batches of shirts with differing "usage tag" position. The usage tag can be located on one side (like the picture shown).

Or the "usage tag" can be in the middle too, just like the replicas.
Clearly, this implies that there should be more than one batch of player shirts produced and different batches lead to differing "usage tag" positioning.

The Champions League players shirt of course shows the adoption of siliver Champions League badge ironed onto the arm.

Finally, the players shirts has the single-layer-one-piece fuse-on type numbers and names, and there are no Premier League lions logo on the numbers.
