Both Carroll and Ricardo have been released by Man.U
Northern Ireland goalkeeper Roy Carroll has been released by Manchester United, the club confirmed today.It was widely believed Carroll was about to sign a new deal but instead he will be leaving Old Trafford.
Spanish goalkeeper Ricardo has also been shown the door along with six young professionals.
It means that Tim Howard is the only senior goalkeeper at United - the American agreed a new deal last week.
Carroll, 27, made 70 appearances for United after arriving from Wigan in July 2001.
He has been allowed to leave despite regaining the jersey from Howard and played in the FA Cup final defeat by Arsenal only last weekend.
The highlight of Carroll's Old Trafford career came towards the end of the 2002/03 season when the Red Devils were closing in on leaders Arsenal for the title.
Fabien Barthez picked up an injury and Carroll stepped up to complete the 10 appearances needed for the first Premiership winners' medal of his career.
Carroll started out at Hull in 1995 and joined Wigan two years later making 170 appearances for the club.
He has been a regular in the Northern Ireland set-up although Birmingham's Maik Taylor is currently seen as number one by manager Lawrie Sanchez.
United have also released Ramon Calliste, Ben Collett, Daniel Nardiello, David Poole, Lee Lawrence and Paul Tierney.
