A new trend?
I don't know if it is a new trend or not:
The 360-spin. Not spin move, but spinning after take off.
It was mostly a style thing before, but recently players (with enough hops to spare) are using it to score efficiently in traffic:
- Kobe's "dragon-punch" style dunks
- Vince's 360 dunks/lay-ups
- T-Mac/Richardson's copy of 360 lay-ups
Of course, it has been done in the old days, but those plays are mostly performed after the scorer has be fouled.
But these 4 guys did the moves intensionally and they are almost unstoppable. When they spin after take off, they have motion going both ways. The defender can't tell which way they're going to launch the shot and got basically frozen every single time.
I tried to do it the other day and found that I could either jump or 360-spin. Doesn't work for guys with no hop
side note:
Eventually I went to the post and did a 360-spin (into left shoulder) followed by a lefty scoop when I was posting up. My defender really got frozen because normally people will launch a right-handed shot after a left spin. Next time I posted up again and spin-left but shoot-right, the defender was frozen again |
