David Beckham remains the ideal candidate to lead England at the World Cup, according to team-mate John Terry.
There have been calls from some quarters for Terry to replace Beckham as captain but this has been nonsensed by the Chelsea stopper.
Since Beckham moved to Spain and Real Madrid there have been questions raised over his suitability for the role, especially given his close relationship with coach Sven Goran Eriksson.
However, this is not a view shared by Terry, who is firmly of the opinion that Beckham can lead England to glory in Germany.
"It's absolutely ridiculous, so many times you see it on the papers: should he be England captain?" said Terry, whilst appearing on David Beckham: A Footballer's Story.
"We've got the right man in charge, whether it be for another four or five years, he's certainly the man and an example to other players and we certainly learn from him."
Terry continued to speak with enthusiasm about England's World Cup chances, optimistic that it could be Beckham holding aloft the coveted trophy on July 9.
"It's such a massive World Cup and for Becks to be the man leading us there with such a great squad of players, we've got a real chance,

"He must feel that inside as well that you know that it's a chance possibly for him to lift the World Cup." |
