Sir Alex Ferguson is adamant that Ruud van Nistelrooy's asking price must be met, otherwise he will remain a United player.
Real Madrid made a second bid for the Dutchman yesterday, but both they and fellow suitors Bayern Munich are still some way off meeting United's value for the striker.
Speaking after United's win over Celtic, Sir Alex told MUTV: "I read about it [Madrid's new bid] on teletext and I spoke to David Gill and nothing has really materially changed.
"They've slightly increased it but nothing really you would say - for goodness sake, an increase of about two bob or something."
Ferguson is adamant that United will not let such a proven goalscorer leave Old Trafford for any less than his asking price, citing Chelsea's signing of Andriy Shevchenko - aged 29 and priced at over £30million - as a benchmark move.
"We know our value," he said. "If we are going to sell Ruud van Nistelrooy we should get the proper value. He is one of the best strikers in the country, one of the best strikers in Europe so when you think about Shevchenko going for £35million - he's a similar age group.
"But we know our value of the player so at the moment he is a Manchester United player." |
