DSP-Z9為YAMAHA推出的最高端支持多聲道的AV功放機，在輸出功率方面，其中7ch/各170W（額定），而另外的前置環繞2ch/各50W（額定），使得總額定輸出功率達到了1290w。

DSP-Z9為了盡可能地提高音質，採用了音頻傳輸信號通路最短化的設計，以使到信號在傳送途中的損耗減到最低。而且在播放狀態下，DSP電路將停止工作，液晶顯示屏也可以手動關閉，以減少對音質的影響。TAOC減震設計則使得主機的安定性有了明顯提高。

為了傳送SACD的DSD信號和DVD的數位音頻信號，DSP-Z9搭載了兩組i.LINK端子。同時DSP-Z9對應A&M規格 ( Audio& Music Data Transmission Protocol 2.0)，對於在重播多聲道SACD的時候，能通過DSP的計算，自動作出音場補正，實現高品質的多聲道SACD重播。

DSP-Z9還提供了多達53種電影院 DSP音場模式，如 CONCERT HALL和MOVIE THEATER等。使用了最新設計的8枚32 bit LSI YSS-930作為DSP音場處理，比起之前的旗艦DSP- AZ1提高了整整6倍的處理能力，使模擬出來的音場的精確度提高3倍以上，讓臨場感和真實感有了明顯的提高。該機獲得了THX Ultra 2的認証，支持Dolby Digital Surround EX及DTS-ES、DTS 96/24以及全新支持7.1模擬環繞聲標準Dolby Pro LogicⅡ。

DSP-Z9搭載了獨立的音場自動修正機能YPAO(Yamaha Parametric Room Acoustic Optimizer)，這種功能使用附屬的MIC作探頭，通過輸入喇叭線的距離、喇叭的尺寸、喇叭間的距離、頻率特性等，自動計算並且給出最佳的方案，讓不同的環境都能表現出最好的視聽效果。

DSP-Z9通過視頻輸出，能在電視螢幕上顯示友好的操作界面，而附送的兩個遙控器，其中一個簡化遙控就是為在使用AV功能時候使用的，另外一個則是全功能遙控器。整機總消耗電量為 700 W，外形尺寸為435× 471× 211mm，重量為30.0kg。
