active / passive speaker? what is it, i just know active/passive voice

Active:
The speaker does not need a ampifier, it has a ampifier build it so all it need is a power (electricity)

Passive:
It need a ampifier to make sound. You cannot just connect it to your sound card. Also, you cannot connect it to the power outlet on the wall

Active : 無源的, 需要有外置擴音機推動.
Passive: 有源的(內建擴音機推動) 如 sub-woofer, 或 PC Speaker (要插電果D)

I think it's the other way around.
What you're refering is for a control unit.
We are talking about speakers.

If you have volumn control on the speaker, it is very likley that it is active.
