Fergie gives Heinze hope
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has given hope to Gabriel Heinze by revealing he could play before the end of the season.
The rampaging left back suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury back in September and it was widely believed that he would not be fit in time to make the World Cup finals in June.
Heinze, though, has refused to give up on his World Cup dream and has made good progress in the last couple of months.
He returned to full training on Friday and is sure to be pressing Ferguson to recall him before the end of the season.
The Scot is aware of Heinze's desire to represent Argentina this summer, but will take a cautious approached with his full back.
"It depends on a lot of things and also what we're trying to achieve," Ferguson told the club's website. "But it is possible that he could be available for the last couple of matches.
"He's certainly doing very well at the moment."
United are battling to secure second spot and automatic qualification for the UEFA Champions League and the goals of Ruud van Nistelrooy have helped them on their way.
The Dutchman netted his 20th goal of the season in midweek and this earned him an award for being the first player to reach the landmark this term. He was also presented with a £1000 donation for charity. |
