Gabriel Heinze: See you in court, Fergie Jul 20 2007
by Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

GABRIEL HEINZE will take his battle to join Liverpool from Manchester United to court.

Sir Alex Ferguson stated yesterday there was no way he would sell the 29-year-old to Liverpool.

However, United will have no choice if Heinze has a get-out clause, and now the defender is preparing to begin legal proceedings demanding his sale.

It’s been widely publicised in recent days Heinze has a letter signed by United chief executive David Gill allowing him to join any club which bids £6m – a valuation Liverpool are prepared to meet.

Despite their protests, it’s understood United did not have the foresight to add the phrase ‘except for Liverpool’ in this document.

Heinze’s representatives are confident of a swift court hearing forcing United to accept a £6m offer made by all interested clubs, including Liverpool.

The Anfield club made a formal bid for the defender which was rejected, but will now take a back seat and watch developments closely over the next few weeks.

Manager Rafa Benitez will want a new left back in his squad before the start of the season.

The capture of Heinze would represent a major coup for Benitez and, given Ferguson’s opposition to the move, would also inflict psychological torment on the United boss.

What’s clear is no matter how much Ferguson claims it won’t happen, the final decision is out of his hands.

Robbie Fowler has turned down Sydney FC, whose chief executive George Perry said: “We’re bitterly disappointed but we respect his decision.”

Fowler agrees to sign for Cardiff

Robbie Fowler has agreed to join Cardiff on a two-year contract.
The 32-year-old striker was released by Liverpool at the end of last season
and has rejected moves to Leicester City and Sydney FC in Australia's
A-League.

Fowler will be re-united with Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale, who was in
charge at Leeds when he signed from Liverpool for £11m in November 2001.

He is expected to be officially unveiled at a news conference in Cardiff
early next week.

Sydney FC had hoped to lure Fowler, and chief executive George Perry said:
"We're bitterly disappointed but we're satisfied we did everything we could
to persuade Robbie to come.

"Robbie was tremendously impressed by what he saw in Sydney but he's chosen
to go elsewhere."

Fowler travelled to Sydney for talks and admitted he had been hugely
impressed with the set-up.

The former England striker's representative George Scott said: "He was
incredibly impressed with them and the city. The only thing against them is
that Robbie is a Premiership player and he is used to Premiership money.

"The Premiership is unique in terms of the crazy money it generates and
there is nothing in the world that replicates it, not even Spain. That money
is well beyond Sydney and the Australian league and we know that.

"It is really a battle between money and quality of life and believe me,
quality of life counts for a lot of money. All the money in the world is not
going to buy your family's happiness."

Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale was quoted on Liverpool's website as saying:
"We have offered an attractive package and are hopeful Robbie will decide to
come.

"Obviously I know Robbie from his days at Leeds and he's an outstanding
finisher and outstanding footballer."

Fowler made his Liverpool debut as an 18-year-old in 1993, scoring 171 goals
in 330 games before joining Leeds for £11m in 2001 and then Manchester City
for £6m in 2003.

Fowler returned for a second spell at Anfield in January 2006, although his
starting appearances were limited.

上次睇美洲國家盃決賽,Heinze表...
Because Rafa prefers rotation policy, if Heinze really join us, I think Rafa will use him and Riise rotationally. Even if one of our central defenders injured, he is able to cover it. Therefore, he is really useful. Although it is quite difficult for me to accept a MU player transfer to Liverpool directly, he's still have class and quality. Moreover, he seems have a strong desire to join us ....... well, I will support him mainly for this reason and of course, I agree that his quality is good for us .......

NEWS STORY
SKRTEL SIGNS UNTIL 2012
Steve Hunter 11 January 2008

Liverpool have today confirmed the signing of Slovakian international defender Martin Skrtel from Zenit St Petersberg on a four and a half year contract.

The established centre half has 15 international caps for his country and Reds boss Rafael Benitez is predicting a bright Anfield future for the 23-year-old.

"I think he is a player maybe not many people know about but he played against Everton for Zenit St Petersberg, and he is a centre half that knows the English style," said Benitez.

"He is aggressive, quick, is good in the air and I think he's a very good player for the future and also for the present.

"He is very competitive, but his mentality for me is very good. Watching him in some games his mentality is similar to Carra so I think it's very positive for the team.

"Our scouts first knew of him when he was playing for Slovakia and we have been monitoring him since the start of the season.

"We saw him play against Everton in the UEFA Cup match at Goodison and during the last few months we have been checking him closely.

"I don't think he will be ready for Middlesbrough because the Russian league season ended more than a month ago and the last competitive game Martin played was in the UEFA Cup in December.

"He has been training but I don't think that will be enough. He needs to get to know his team-mates and the league but I will look at him in training because he has a very good physical condition."

The Reds boss also believes Skrtel is a player who will settle quickly into life at Anfield and put pressure on the likes of Jamie Carragher, Sami Hyypia and Daniel Agger for a starting role in the first team.

"He has quality and he can be a problem for them and a good problem for me if I need to decide who to play in the future," added Benitez.

"He has experience and enough quality for playing as soon as possible."

Skrtel will wear squad number 37 at Anfield.

NEWS STORY
RAFA: MO COULD GO
Jimmy Rice 11 January 2008

Rafa Benitez has confirmed Momo Sissoko could leave Liverpool in the January transfer window.

The Spanish coach revealed two or three clubs were keen on signing the Mali international.

Benitez said: "I was talking with Momo about leaving a few times, and with his agent. We know we have two or three clubs asking about him and we will try to find the best solution for him and for us.

"It depends on if we find the right club and the right offer. We need to wait.

"In a top side the competition is always really hard. We've brought in Lucas and with Gerrard playing in the middle this year, plus Alonso and Mascherano, he is under pressure.

"But he wants to play every game. We will try to find a solution for him because he is a nice boy."

Liverpool today completed the signing of Slovak defender Martin Skrtel, who Benitez revealed could well be the only addition this month.

The Liverpool boss said: "We are happy with the squad. We needed another centre-back but in the other positions we have enough players."

On the ongoing speculation regarding Javier Mascherano's future, Benitez added: "We will continue to keep working and we are confident he will stay with us."
