Imagine the excitement we felt when we saw reports in the Spanish newspapers Friday that linked Argentine wunderkind Sergio Aguero with Atletico Madrid. Just last week we declared to the world that we have trademarked his name. Figuring the reports that Athletic Madrid would pay 23 million euros for our prodigal son were true, we were all ready to cash in our royalty checks, pack up the double wide and head for a life of sipping strawberry daiquiris by the beach. But, alas, the rumors have been denied by Aguero’s current club Independente and our retirement plans are once again on hold.
“By no stretch of the imagination has any deal been closed,” said Independente president Julio Comparada. “I saw this story was published in Spain, but I do not understand why.”
One reason why is because, as Comprada admits, the two clubs have been in talks. Given the incredible skill of Aguero, there is little wonder why some journalists in Spain would be eager to prematurely announce a deal.
“When the Argentine league tournament is over, we will consider the offers for this player, and then we will see. Until then, Aguero is with Independiente, although (one day) it will be impossible to hold him back,” Comparada said.
This is welcome news to fans of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and any other number of teams that are looking to bid for Aguero’s services. Not so good news for our retirement fund, but we are willing to slug away at the blog for a few more months before we play cards all day.
For those who haven’t seen Aguero in action or are simply wondering why we continue to pimp this kid, have a look at this and keep in mind he is 17 years old |
