紅軍加入柏加爭奪戰
REDS JOIN RACE FOR PARKER
Liverpool have entered the battle for Newcastle United target Scott Parker - but the Reds' Merseyside rivals Everton have dropped out.
Parker looks certain to leave Chelsea this summer, and both the Magpies and Champions League-winners Liverpool are ready to match his £55,000-a-week Stamford Bridge wages.
But that would smash Everton's wage structure, and boss David Moyes will look elsewhere this summer ahead of the Toffeemen's Champions League qualifiers.
And in a double blow to Moyes, Chelsea striker Mikael Forrsell has failed his Goodison Park medical.
Moyes could now turn to United striker Craig Bellamy, whose agent is due to meet Celtic to discuss a permanent move to Parkhead.
Parker, meanwhile, is available for a fee of around £6mParker, meanwhile, is available for a fee of around £6m, having cost the Blues £10m in January last year.
The worry for United is that the lure of Champions League football will see the former Charlton Athletic midfielder choose Anfield over St James' Park.
But equally Parker will know that he would be part of a rotation system at Anfield, while he wouldhave a better chance of a regular first-team place at Newcastle.
United's interest in Parker almost certainly spells the end for Bowyer - the subject of interest from his former club Charlton - but Nicky Butt could yet stay at St James', having told friends he wants to salvage his Newcastle career.
United could open talks with another midfield target, Israel international Yossi Benayoun, now that his season is over.
The left-sided midfielder played for Israel against the Republic of Ireland on Saturday, though no-one from Newcastle's staff was at Lansdowne Road.
Bolton Wanderers were among the club's represented at the World Cup qualifier.
Souness, now back from holiday, and chairman Freddy Shepherd are this week attempting to tie up several deals, with many fans waiting on signings before renewing their season tickets, with the deadline a week today.
