Dear Sir Alex Ferguson,
Rant doesn't say this with any pleasure, it's no knee jerk reaction, we're no spoilt child throwing our toy out of the cot. But it has to be said, on the record right now. For the sake of Manchester United - the greatest football club on the planet - Fergie please go, now. Rant says this not because we believe that United have a divine right to win; we don't. We say this not because we think there's an obvious choice of replacement; there isn't. We say this not because we've grown fat on success and have forgotten what you have done for this club; we haven't. No we say this because we love our club and you have taken it as far as you can. Thank you for the memories, but goodbye.
Rant didn't think we'd ever call for your head. You're the greatest manager the club has ever seen, possibly the sport has ever seen. Success hasn't come easily these past 20 years but it has come in abundance. No United fan will ever forget where we were before you joined as Manager in 1986. And nobody will forget where you have taken us; that first Premiership in 26 years, five FA Cups, Rotterdam '91, Barcelona '99. Let this be clear, Rant doesn't want to see you sacked. Manchester Untied doesn't do sacking anymore. We want YOU, Sir Alex, to realise that you can go no further. That for the good of the club, for the team, for the sake of progress and your legacy you should resign.
Let's face it the evidence of your decline is so clear that it's an open and shut case. United have slipped by the wayside, fallen behind, dare we say it, become third rate. Failure is not a word in your dictionary but it's something that United fans have fast learnt to deal with these past three to four seasons. Just one Premiership title in four seasons and a lucky one at that. In fact, even if United win this season's FA Cup - and it's still a BIG if - it will still only be a win in United's third choice competition. We don't even need to mention the turgid failure that has been the European Cup.
United's success has been built on four core blocks; the promotion of youth, astute signings, brilliant man management and tactical nous. It's a sad day but Rant can't honestly say that any of these hold true today.
In recent seasons the talent coming through has been almost non-existent. In fact in the last five years only Wes Brown, John O'Shea and Darren Fletcher have had regular first team football after coming through the academy. This may not be directly your fault but it is your responsibility.
Your recent transfer record is abysmal to say the least. Remember when you found gems like Cantona, Bruce, Irwin, Johnsen, Schmeichel? No it's almost too far back to remember for Rant too! Seriously though, so few of your recent signings have been less than total disasters; Veron, Forlan, Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson, Blanc. Even Ferdinand, who may or may not come good, was tremendously expensive. Of your recent transfer successes - Rooney, Ronaldo, Heinze - none were cheap.
However, it's not just the lack of success that has prompted this call for your resignation, Sir Alex. No it's the style or, more accurately, the LACK of style that has lead to this. United are boring. There's no way of sweetening this pill to make it more palatable. The current United side rank alongside Bolton, Everton and Blackburn as the Premiership's most boring sides. 4-5-1 has killed our style; killed the entertainment. United aren't at all entertaining. Isn't that the most devastating condemnation of all?
So we're clear our call is this; your resignation, effective Sunday May 22nd 2005. The reasons are clear but in case anybody is in any doubt:
A single Premiership title in four seasons
(Probably) third place two seasons in a row
A complete lack of flair and style in the first team
Utter failure in the European Cup since '99
A shocking recent record in the transfer market
Total failure of our youth development system
Rant is prepared to admit that we're wrong; shift to 4-4-2, win the next six games with flair and style. For the love of God, let the team score some goals. But would it really be any more than papering over the cracks? We love you Fergie but your time has come.
Yours faithfully, 唉,真係絕對同意呀
saf!請給曼聯一個機會
