(18.8 West Ham) West Ham United have signed England goalkeeper Robert Green, who is currently recovering from a groin injury that caused him to miss the 2006 World Cup. Depending on appearances, West Ham will pay second division side Norwich City up to €3m for the 26-year-old. Green has agreed a four-year contract with the Premiership club.

"The objective from the beginning was to play Ballack and Lampard together but we have not had many chances to work on it." Chelsea will also be without the injured Joe Cole, Claude Makelele and Petr Cech.

Mendes was taken to a hospital for additional tests and it was unclear how quickly he might recover. He will continue to be under medical and neurological supervision during the forthcoming week, said Portsmouth.

Anelka, who won the Champions League with Real Madrid, has previously played in the Premiership for Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City.
