Bye To A Bad Week!!!!
Fergie Happy To Finish 'Bad Week' On A High
Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted to see United get back to winning ways after what he described as "a bad week for the club."
United romped to a 4-0 victory over Wigan at Old Trafford thanks to Rio Ferdinand's first goal for the club, a Wayne Rooney double and a penalty conversion by Ruud van Nistelrooy.
"It was an important win for us," Fergie told MUTV. "It's been a bad week for the club but we have to grit our teeth, stick together and keep to our principals."
The win moved United into second spot in the Premiership but they still remain nine points behind top-of-the-table Chelsea.
"Everybody hopes they'll drop points," Fergie told Sky Sports. "Ourselves, Arsenal and Liverpool are all in the same boat where that's concerned.
"We're level on games with them now but still nine points behind which is a long way.
"The only thing we can do is try and keep a consistent run of form going until the end of the season and see where it takes us.
"You never know what can happen in football. Chelsea could slip up and if they do we want to be the team that's next to them."
Sir Alex also took time to praise United's attacking display which led to their biggest home win of the season.
"We produced some great football and I thought we played absolutely superbly for 25 minutes of the second half," he said. "The second goal settled us down and brought confidence to the team.
"Their goalkeeper Mike Pollitt had an outstanding game and made three or four great saves and in fairness they were the better side in the last fifteen minutes.
"It's been a long time coming for Rio," joked Fergie after the defender headed home his first Reds goal. "Overall, I'm very pleased with the performance and the result." |
