The French international may end up leaving Italy if current club Juventus are relegated over allegations of bribery, and Sir Alex Ferguson is tipped to sign Vieira after coming close to doing so in the past.

Juve, AC Milan, Fiorentina and Lazio all face potential punishment, and United may also take further advantage of the situation with a double swoop for Milan midfielders Andrea Pirlo and Rino Gattuso, according to the tabloids.

FORTUNE SET FOR BOLTON DEAL

Bolton Wanderers are close to signing former Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune.
The 29-year-old South African has been training with the Trotters recently and, providing he proves his fitness, manager Sam Allardyce will complete the signing.

“I am hopeful that everything will go to plan and we will sign him on a permanent basis,” Allardyce told official club website www.bwfc.co.uk.

Fortune, released by United earlier in the summer, was linked with moves to Celtic and Manchester City but deals with both clubs failed to materialise.

The versatile left-sided player has been training with Bolton at the club’s Bad Ragaz camp in Switzerland this week.

Allardyce said: “Quinton Fortune, without any question, would be a top player for us if he stays fit. He has had a few injuries based on his record over the past two years.

“He has done himself a real favour by committing to our training regime to prove his fitness."
