Round-up: Former Manchester City and Manchester United player Peter Barnes
has urged City defender Micah Richards not to join the club’s cross-city
rivals if they make a bid.
Barnes moved from City to United via West Brom and Coventry, and was
responding to rumours published in the Manchester Evening News that linked
the England defender with a £20 million summer move to United.
""If I was Micah I would just sit tight at City no matter who said they
wanted me and keep on learning my trade. He is liked by the fans and playing
for the Blues has not done him any harm or stopped him winning England caps
and I am sure City will still be in the Premiership next season," Barnes
told the paper.
"Anyone who left City for United would probably get stick for the rest of
his life. But if the Reds do make an enquiry then City should quote a
ridiculous price!"
West Ham"s Luis Boa Morte has spoken of his joy at returning off the bench
for the Hammers in their victory at Blackburn earlier in the month.
The recent signing from Fulham suffered a massive blow in the early stages
of life at his new club when he was struck down with a virus but he hopes
now to start paying back his transfer fee.
"It has been really disappointing this month because I missed some games. I
was sick; I had this horrible virus. I had a really high fever and I knew it
wasn't good. Since I recovered I've just been trying to work hard and get
back to fitness," he told the club's website.
"I was really happy even to play for five minutes [against Blackburn]. I
hope we can continue winning against Middlesbrough and, hopefully, I will be
getting my fitness back as well."
American company Kroenke Sports Enterprise (KSE) have said that they have no
interest of buying into Arsenal.
KSE have a link-up with Arsenal through Major League Soccer club Colorado
Rapids, but Jurgen Mainka, who is the Rapids' director of communications,
said that that will be as far as the arrangement goes.
"There is no interest from KSE in buying any shares of Arsenal or any
Premier League club," he said.
Kenny Shepard, son of Newcastle President Freddie, has confirmed that the
club are looking at Benfica defensive duo Nelson and Luisao.
He told Portuguese daily sports paper O Jogo "There are two amongst a number
of players we are looking at, but at the moment, we haven"t made any
concrete bids."
Nelson is predominantly a right-back, while Luisao is a Brazilian
centre-half.
Portsmouth captain Dejan Stefanovic, who has a year left on his current
contract, has told the club"s official website that he "would love to stay
here for the rest of my career."
"Since I joined, this club has moved slowly upwards. We have a great team
spirit and great individual players," the 31-year-old defender added.
"I said when I first came here that one day I'd like to play for the club in
Europe and that's now a possibility."
Alan Stubbs is reportedly close to signing a new one-year contract extension
with Everton.
The 35-year-old is a boyhood Toffee fan and is now set to stay beyond his
current contract which expires in the summer.
It is Stubbs second spell at Goodison Park, after having rejoined from
Sunderland in January last year.
However, midfielder Lee Carsley, who is also out of contract at the end of
the season, may wait to see what other offers come up before deciding
whether to extend his deal.
Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry says that the club are not in renewed
negotiations with Benfica for Simao but hasn"t ruled out a future move for a
player that they tried to sign last year.
"At the moment we haven't engaged in any negotiations, at a later time we
will look again at the situation," he told O Jogo.
Sydney FC chief executive George Perry says that the club are not interested
in signing West Ham's Teddy Sheringham as their one "marquee player",
because the club believe the 40-year-old is too old.
"We were concerned about his ability to play on a regular basis in the
Australian climate," he confirmed.
Terry Fenwick, currently coaching Trinidad and Tobago club San Juan
Jabloteh, has confirmed that Portsmouth could hijack Arsenal's bid for his
prized young asset, 18-year-old Lester Peltier.
"Portsmouth have shown they are interested and we are awaiting the outcome,"
he said. |
