Pearce looks to Pep up his City squad


Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce has offered a week's trial to former Barcelona stalwart Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola, 34, spent 17 years at the Nou Camp before having spells with Brescia and Roma in Serie A.


He then moved on to Qatar, where he came to the attention of former City favourite Ali Benarbia, who suggested Pearce have a look at him.

Having been impressed by another of Benarbia's suggestions, midfielder Yasser Hussein, Pearce has opted to look at Guardiola, who will train with the Blues first-team squad for the next seven days, allowing the new City chief to assess whether he can stand the rigours of top flight action.

Although he will not be involved in Saturday's Barclays Premiership opener with West Brom, Guardiola is likely to play in Tuesday's reserve team encounter with Middlesbrough.

Meanwhile, City officials are still trying to resolve work permit problems for Hussein, who has been offered a six month contract.

Hussein is a regular member of Qatar's national squad but because his country are ranked a lowly 75th in the FIFA rankings, City have to make a special case for the midfielder to be allowed to ply his trade in England.
