im just an aussie with a few thoughts:

1. yes the penalty decision was dubious5 W$ H( L+ R5 \9 h
2. the materazzi red card was also dubious: yes the tackle was mistimed, but it was neither cynical, dangerous, nor was he the last defender
3 d# @7 u3 v K. Q" t% D3. we had a CHANCE of winning the match, i think it is quite conceited to say we WERE GOING to win the match
% |! g' X$ I4 y4. there was little evidence to say that we were DOMINATING the match, maybe we dominated a little after the red card (which was dubious in the first place)+ w6 t! v% c5 I; J9 }% X
5. we couldnt score for the whole 95 minutes; what makes our players think we were definitely superior to the italians?7 v" O$ r; [( S; A: x0 Q
6. again we couldnt score for the whole of regulation, now, excluding penalties (where anything could happen), what makes our players think they were going to score in extra time, and not the italians scoring instead (had the match went on without the penalty)?
# B8 O7 ^1 l& w! z7 V' C7. it is irresponsible to say that the referee was favouring 'big teams'; consider that, in the last world cup, the italians were knocked out by the koreans, the french by the senegalese, the portugese by the americans, and that the turks made the semis(!)4 f# |/ q8 Q7 d( p+ d" }, `8 [' I

Overall, i think the loss was harsh and we deserved to go into extra time, but there was a possiblity that we were going to lose in extra time or penalties anyway. So insulting the italians and the referee, in my humble opinion, shows utter disrespect and lack of sportsmanship. |
