You will find in task manager/application
How much software and system softeare or executive file is running.  Then you will know how much resources you computer is using that is not necessary.
Think about not to put so much unnecessary softeare running online.(Each software company will try to put there system online but try not to use them if is not being using all the time)

The next thing is to have as much memeory as possible(if you could afford) 512M is minimium to run to a reasonable speed.
Cache memeory in the CPU is another determinating point.  Try to use 512k to 1M L2 Cache CPU!!
