Paul Scholes feels Manchester United can wave goodbye to the Premiership title if they fail to take maximum points against Blackburn and Fulham.
United have made an unbeaten start to the new season, but due to Chelsea's hot pace find themselves seven points adrift of The Blues.
Injuries are starting to bite at Old Trafford, with key men Roy Keane and Gabriel Heinze picking up long-term injuries and joining the likes of Wes Brown, Quinton Fortune, Gary Neville and Louis Saha in the treatment room.
In Keane's absence, Scholes will take on the leadership role in the middle of the park and he is aware the club cannot afford a repeat of last year's efforts when they slipped up against the supposed lesser teams.
"If we can't beat Blackburn and Fulham we have no hope of winning the league," the former England international told MUTV.
"It was against the lower teams that we dropped so many stupid points last season and why we fell so far behind. If we are to have any hopes this year we cannot afford to do that."
Scholes is aware of the task ahead in chasing down Chelsea, but feels The Blues cannot keep up their red hot pace.
"Apart from Arsenal, Chelsea have not played many of the top teams while we have had three or four really tough games," he added.
"We have dropped four points but I am sure Chelsea will drop points as well, we just can't afford to drop many more." |
