利物浦出價6.5M收購賓菲加後衛Luisao被拒絕



Benfica have revealed that they turned down an offer in excess of €10 million (£6.5 million) from Liverpool for defender Luisao.

The Reds are in the market for a new centre back and have been linked with a string of names including Fernando Meira, Daniel Agger and Abdoulaye Meite.

Rafa Benitez has remained coy about his dealings, but Benfica have now confirmed they knocked back a multi-million bid for the Brazil international stopper.

"It was a good proposal," Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira told A Bola. "It was over €10 million.

"But Luisao is an asset of Benfica and is going to stay at the club.

"Benfica intends to strengthen not weaken itself."

Luisao signed a contract extension that ties him to Estadio da Luz until 2011 earlier in the summer and the Lisbon-based giants do not want to lose him having recently sold another defender Miguel to Valencia.

Reports in Portugal suggest Benitez will maintain a watching brief on the powerful 24-year-old and will return to test Benfica's resolve either during the January transfer window or next summer.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has confirmed the club's interest in Stelios Giannakopoulos, saying that they have spoken to Bolton about the Greek winger.

Benitez has consistently said that he wanted to bring in a new central defender and right winger as he re-shapes his European champions.

Stelios was earmarked as a potential target earlier in the summer but the trail cooled as The Reds went in pursuit of Real Madrid man Luis Figo.

The Portuguese star then joined Internazionale and Aston Villa's Nolberto Solano has entered the fray, with Milan Baros joining David O'Leary's side.

However, Benitez has now confirmed that Stelios is the man he wants to bring in on the right wing before the transfer window closes - and talks have already begun.

The two clubs have been in contact and Benitez says that he has spoken to Trotters counterpart Sam Allardyce about a move for the Euro 2004 winner.

"Our chief executive Rick Parry is talking with their Chairman about the possibility of a deal," Benitez told the club's website.

"I also spoke to Sam Allardyce about the player last night (Tuesday) because we need to know if he'd be available. At this moment Stelios is one possibility for us.

"We are working hard to strengthen the squad before the deadline."

Liverpool will not be rushed into a move to sign former star Michael Owen, despite Newcastle agreeing a club record deal with Real Madrid.

Owen, 25, has admitted he wants to join Liverpool, but is prepared to sign for Newcastle on a season-long loan if he cannot return to Anfield.

But BBC Sport understands Liverpool will not pay more than the £8m Real splashed out to land Owen last summer.

And he would have to take a pay cut to persuade Liverpool to pursue a deal.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has been coy on the possibility of signing a player he agreed to sell last summer, insisting his priority is a central defender and a right-sided midfield player.

But he is interested, and BBC Sport believes Liverpool may finally show their hand after Friday's Super Cup Final in Monaco against CSKA Moscow.

Liverpool are playing it cool on Owen because they have spent big on strikers to sign Fernando Morientes and Peter Crouch.

And while there has been talk that Djibril Cisse may leave, Liverpool cannot afford to take a heavy loss on a player that cost them £14m only last summer.

Liverpool have also broken the bank to keep Steven Gerrard at Anfield, and are now unlikely to offer Owen a similar deal.

This leaves Newcastle in the frame, although their club-record offer looks doomed to failure with Owen only prepared to contemplate a loan move.
