Liverpool complete Degen signing



Liverpool have finalised the transfer of Switzerland international defender Philipp Degen on a free transfer from German club Borussia Dortmund.

The 25-year-old former Basel player, who will compete with Alvaro Arbeloa and Steve Finnan for the right-back berth, has signed a four-year deal.

An unused substitute during Euro 2008, Degen agreed to join Liverpool in May.

Liverpool also expect to complete the signing of Udinese defender Andrea Dossena in the next few days.

Degen began his career with Basel in 1996, making his debut in 2001, before joining Dortmund in 2005.

"His strength is going forward," Reds manager Rafael Benitez told Liverpool's website when the agreement was confirmed.

"He is an offensive player with great energy and a winning mentality.

"He also played in the Champions League during his time with Basel and so is used to top-level football."

"He is a good signing, a player of potential, who can help us improve in the wide areas."

Degen - whose twin brother David plays for Basel - has made 26 appearances for Switzerland since making his international debut in 2005.

Galatasaray Announce Kewell Capture




Former Leeds United midfielder Harry Kewell has reportedly completed a controversial move to Galatasaray.

The 29-year old, who was released by Liverpool in May after an injury-troubled spell at Anfield, was widely expected to move to Portsmouth within the next few days.

However, the Australia international has risked the backlash of English football fans with the decision to join the Turkish club.

The player angered fans at Elland Road after he refused to sign a new deal with the club, instead holding them to ransom until they accepted a cut-price ￡5 million offer from Liverpool.

The move will also heighten the tension between fans of Leeds United and their Turkish counterpart which stems from the dreadful scenes witnessed in 2000 before the sides’ UEFA Cup semi-final, with two innocent fans of the English club stabbed to death during violent clashes.

It was not the first incident of violence involving Galatasaray, with Manchester United fans also targeted by hooligan sects in 1993 and more recently during Champiosn League fixtures.

Kewell’s career has failed to hit the heights of his spell with The Whites, where he established himself as one of the best left-wingers in Europe, and he now looks set to sign a three-year deal with the club.

Galatasaray’s official website has announced his arrival at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium, news that will disappoint fans and potential suitors alike.

歐冠8強輸給車路士後，利物浦成為了英超四強中之後比賽最少的：曼聯和車路士三線作戰，阿仙奴雖然聯賽沒戲，但足總杯和歐冠都進入了4強，只有紅軍本賽季僅剩聯賽。

賓帥大談塞翁失馬

儘管在斯坦福橋攻入4球，利物浦依然沒有出線。主帥賓尼迪斯賽後大談塞翁失馬的道理，給球隊提氣，「我們應該為自己自豪，球員們完成了一次夢幻般的傑作，球迷們也應該感到欣慰。所有球員表現都很好，尤其是頂替謝拉特的利華。我們從一開始就猛攻對手，我們一度非常接近奇蹟。」

這是紅軍連續第2個賽季被車路士淘汰，賓尼迪斯強調：「輸球當然會失望，但以這樣的方式輸球，我們應該自豪，並把注意力轉移到英超上。我們能在斯坦福橋破門4次，就能攻陷任何球場。」

確實，在跑馬拉松時，當發現對手每跑一段就能上車稍事休息，肯定讓人絕望。賓帥說：「我認為我們的板凳深度沒問題，有些球員可能會有點疲倦，因為最近常常要一週雙賽。但現在我們有足夠的球員每週都上場，我們只需要一場一場比賽來，繼續贏球，給曼聯壓力。」

艾朗素：我寧願多打

充分的休息，意味著托利斯和謝拉特這對核心球員很有希望場場出陣。賓尼迪斯說：「對車路士賽前，我認為謝拉特可以上，可惜他感覺自己有點問題。最終作出讓他休息的決定很容易，因為我們球隊不僅是有謝拉特和托利斯。下週對阿仙奴的比賽，謝拉特將沒問題。」

利物浦將士紛紛表態。門將連拿說：「我們還剩下6場比賽，我們必須全部贏下。主動權當然還在曼聯手上，但我認為曼聯會丟分的。曼聯現在壓力很大，而我們不會放棄。我們是利物浦，我們也是在為希利斯堡慘案的遇難者踢球。」

進球英雄奧雷利奧表示：「儘管沒有能擊敗車路士，但我們顯示了足球世界沒有不可能的。我們現在只剩下英超聯賽，我們會繼續展現這樣的鬥志。」古治也說：「我們對歐冠出局失望，但從中我們也可以發現很多正面的東西。我們展現了永不放棄的精神，我們將在聯賽中也展現這種精神。聯賽還沒有結束，希望我們能最終奪冠。」

只有中場艾朗素有點悲觀，「你永遠不知道這意味著什麼。從邏輯上來說，我們應該有了更多休息的時間，但有時候你寧願有很多比賽可以打。不停地比賽能夠幫助你，所以歐冠出局我們並不開心。」
