German international striker Lukas Podolski has left Cologne and signed a contract with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
Cologne president Wolfgang Overath told Bild-newspaper: “Yes, its true. We agreed to the transfer. We wish Poldi all the best with Bayern Munich.”
It is understood that the transfer fee is around 10 millio euros.
"I am happy that it's been settled, it's a new challenge for me," Podolski told reporters coveing the the German national team.
"It was a purely sporting decision, Bayern is the No. 1 club in Germany and the top address in the country," added Podolski, who was also being sought by Hamburger SV and Werder Bremen.
Cologne were relegated after one season last month, and Podolski was not relishing playing in the second division again, though he had another two years on his contract with Cologne.
The 20-year-old Polish-born striker is considered one of Germany's most promising players, and epresents Bayern's first major signing since Michael Ballack left for Chelsea.

The Chelsea defender picked up an ankle injury in training last week and tests revealed that he wold be out of action for at least three weeks.
After receiving special premission from Fifa to substitute Del Horno, Luis Aragonés has brought in Pernía to bolster the left-back position.
The 29-year-old Pernía was born in Argentina, but is eligible to play for La Furia Roja after being granted Spanish citizenship last month.

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko from AC Milan for a fee of around £30million.
The 29-year-old flew into London today to conclude negotiations with the Stamford Bridge club after announcing last week his intention to leave.
A statement posted on the AC Milan website said: 'AC Milan communicates it has ceded definitely the sporting rights of footballer Andriy Shevchenko to Chelsea Football Club.'
Chelsea confirmed the fee is a club record and that the Ukraine captain has signed a four-year contract.
