I feel strange too, since I born in HK, people make up an English name.
# z: H* S* D& t1 |9 W# g+ T! A1 }7 \Its probably because Chinese are ashamed and lack of confident to their own language,
6 O# P% r8 C) F; T6 H) Z3 D; _7 \: o3 zplus HK is a British colony where Govt. promotes English as more important language than Chinese., thats why we make up English name such as John Susan Mary Jenny Peter and so on to please Westerners and be more fashionable. People use their own Chinese name are considered as 'outdate'.3 w0 E! `, G. x0 K8 v/ h

0 k" z: I. e. t) PThink about it in this way: in year 20xx, all Westerners make up a Chinese name, and using their own English name is considerd as 'outdate',what would you feel as Chinese?

6 \+ m1 [: u; ]* H0 THK Chinese with English name are strange inside many foreigners eyes who never been to HK, mostly base on the British colonial background, that local Chinese have to please British by not accepting their Chinese identity...and British promote English is the most important language in HK to persuade Chinese residents... anyway its a historical topic.
