Remsburg is actually a good scholar...back in the 1900s. The sources in the book are quite outdated now...and he's using a lot of koine Greek to prove his argument, which is better than some other fallacies in other books.

He's saying basically the apostolic writers and Jospehus (the historian) got their ideas from the Greek-Roman culture and that destroys the traditional Jewish religion (Judaism). I don't know if Remsburg is a Jew or not so I can't say his motives are a)to disapprove the authenticity of the Christian religions, b)to show the world the agony of the Jewish people caused by the Christians, or c) to affirm the contextualization of the Christian faith in the first century Palestine then Mediterrian area.

If the answer is a), then I don't know if his argument is sufficient in the book. Does the expression (form) of a religion to people need to be 'original'? (Remember, the form of a religion can take serveral faces but the essence must be the same, agree?)

If the answer is b), I think he did an awesome job! Sociologically and religiously Remsburg did show the Christianization of the 1st century AD Med. area's effect on the Jewish people. (we also need to give credit to Emperor Constantine, the Roman ruler in 3rd Century AD)" q# f% \9 H8 c! l$ {; w

The answer c) is another job well done by the author. It shows how extensive the spread of the Christian religion and the efforts of the contextualization of the faith is done by the disciples of Jesus, in particularly Paul.
