Goalscorer Saha Injured, Doubtful For Italy Clash
French international Luis Saha picked up an ankle injury during France's 3-0 win in Georgia, and is doubtful for the clash against Italy on Wednesday. This creates a fresh worry for coach Raymond Domenech, who is already without David Trezeguet.
The Manchester United forward picked up the injury following a strong challenge fifteen minutes from time.
The ankle is swollen, but a break has not yet been ascertained, meaning that he could yet make it if it turns out to be just a bruise. Scans today [Sunday] are likely to reveal the true nature of the injury.
Should he be ruled out though, France coach will need to rethink his attacking options, as David Trezeguet is also sidelined for the two matches with an injury.
Domenech is reluctant to add someone to the midfield and send Henry into the sole striking role, as he is keen to use the Arsenal forward's creative skills following Zidane's retirement.
The possibilities being contemplated are either Wiltord or Govou, who can both play up front. However, Domenech has also suggested that he could call up another striker if Saha were to be ruled out.
The identity of that striker is as yet unknown, though some sections of the French press have suggested that Nicolas Anelka could earn a surprise one-game trial.
