Silvestre想與曼聯續約
Silvestre wants new deal
Mikael Silvestre agrees Manchester United need a replacement for Roy Keane, and feels that Michael Essien would have been ideal, but he wants to sign a new deal at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils were in the race to sign the Chelsea midfielder before he left Lyon but the financial power of the Premiership champions outmuscled Sir Alex Ferguson's side.
Silvestre feels that it is a shame Essien went to Stamford Bridge but is happy with his own form and would like to extend his spell in Manchester.
"We are only looking for someone in the midfield," he told L'Equipe. "To replace, little by little, Roy Keane.
"He can hardly play every three days now.
"The club was following Essien but he became too expensive."
The former Internazionale defender is in UEFA Champions League action again against Lille on Tuesday night.
"Juventus are my favourites for the Champions League," he opined. "However, if we get everyone back soon, we can achieve something.
"I have had a good start to the season. I feel at ease here.
"I am here for three years and I would like to prolong that.
"I play in the centre of defence and it is really my position."
Silvestre is obviously annoyed to be continually overlooked by France coach Raymond Domenech, particularly as Les Bleus are gearing up for another World Cup finals appearance.
"I think Raymond Domenech has made a sporting choice," he declared. "I miss the French team.
"He has always stated the door is still open but I think there is a door entry system and I don't have the code!
"Now I just have to do my best with Manchester, it is my only hope.
"I have talked about it with Alex Ferguson." |
