Well, I would say they may not put 100% effort on some matches ....

I give you 2 more examples:

in 2002-03 season

Arsenal 6-1 Southampton

both of them were in FA Cup final

Arsenal lost the champion to Man Utd. Southampton can be playing in UEFA next season...
They were more relaxing to play that game... so the score was that high

in 2004-2005 season

Arsenal 7-0 Everton
Well, Arsenal was 2nd and Everton could be 3rd or 4th
it won't effect they can play in European Championship this season.....
