Rio hunting for December hat-trick

If goals really are like London buses for Rio Ferdinand, then number three should arrive any day now.

The defender waited for more than 3 years and 140 matches to open his Old Trafford account - in the 4-0 win over Wigan on 14 December. He then doubled his tally just 12 days later, against West Brom on Boxing Day.

It begs the question, when will Rio strike next... on Wednesday night at Birmingham or against the Wanderers - Bolton - on Saturday?

"It's all about the delivery," laughs Rio, as if to suggest his supply lines had been faulty.

"I've been fortunate to have had two good balls in and I've been able to score. It's good for me and the team. If you're going to win anything you've got to share the goals about. I think the team is reaping the rewards now that we're starting to get a few goals each."

Ferdinand is enjoying his best Christmas since joining United in the summer of 2002. As well as scoring twice in the last three league games, he's also been successful in his 'day job', helping the team to keep three clean sheets.

"If we can keep clean sheets we always know we've got the firepower to score at the other end," says Rio.

"In the last few games we've scored at some vital times, like just before half-time (against West Brom). When you do that, and it gives you a two- or three-goal cushion then it's going to breed confidence throughout the team."

Confidence will be high in the United squad when they arrive at St Andrews on Wednesday evening, especially after winning 3-1 there only eight days ago. But Rio refuses to be complacent, even if the Reds seemed relatively comfortable in their Carling Cup triumph.

"Birmingham is a hard place to go to," warns Rio. "The fans get right behind their team, and I'm sure they'll be wanting to rectify the result from last time.

"It'll be a tough game but hopefully we can get the three points. We've got to maintain our form... then we'll have a good chance if any slip-ups do happen (with Chelsea)."

　　題記：如果說進球對裡奧費迪南來說就像倫敦無數的巴士一樣的話，那麼他的第三個入球隨時都會到來。
　　
　　為了攻入在曼聯的處子球，裡奧費迪南足足等了三年。他的努力沒有白費，在140場比賽之後，這位紅魔鐵衛終于在對韋根的比賽中迎來了自己在紅魔的第一球。閥門一旦打開，進球彷佛就變得不可抵擋，這不，在12天之後節禮日的比賽中，裡奧就收獲了自己的第二個入球。
　　
　　現在的問題是，他的第三個入球什麼時候到來？是周三對陣伯明翰，還是在周六對陣保頓的比賽中？
　　
　　在被問到這個問題時，裡奧說：“我很幸運，到現在我已經擁有了兩個聯賽入球，這讓我相信自己確有進球能力，並能進更多的球。比賽要想獲勝，球員就必須進球，我想現在我們已經步入收獲期，因為每場比賽我們都能獲得進球。”
　　
　　對于裡奧費迪南來說，這個聖誕節可謂是他加盟曼聯以來最快樂的聖誕節，一個原因他一下子獲得兩個進球，另一原因則是作為中後衛的他成功讓球隊連續三場比賽沒有失球。
　　
　　“如果我們總是能夠保持不讓對手進球，那麼我們就會有足夠的動力和火力在比賽中攻破對方球門。就像對陣西布朗的比賽，最近我們一段時間我們總是能在關鍵深刻進球，這無疑給我們以後的比賽增強了信心。”
　　
　　連續三場比賽不失球讓紅魔信心滿滿，因此當他們展望周三對伯明翰比賽時，也充滿了必勝的信念，畢竟8天之前他們剛從聖安德魯斯球場大勝而歸。盡管如此，裡奧費迪南還是保持了清醒：“伯明翰並不那麼好對付，在他們身後，有眾多球迷與擁躉，我相信他們一定會全力取勝以取悅球迷。”
　　
　　雖然對伯明翰的客場比賽可能會很艱苦，但裡奧費迪南仍舊充滿必勝的信心，因為在他看來，只有取勝才能緊跟車路士，並期待奇跡發生。
