Manchester United are not expected to make any new signings before the transfer window closes on Thursday after Sir Alex Ferguson effectively conceded defeat in his attempts to sign Owen Hargreaves.

Bayern Munich have blocked United's efforts to bring the England midfielder to Old Trafford, and after the club's 100% start to the season Ferguson is not anxious for other new blood.

It is also understood that the United manager will not move for French striker David Trezeguet, who is desperate to leave Juventus.

Hargreaves, meanwhile, has not endeared himself to his Bayern team-mates by expressing his desire to move to United despite only a few months ago having signed a new contract to stay in Munich until 2010.

Bayern goalkeeper Oliver Kahn said the Canadian-born midfielder should concentrate on his career in Germany.

"You cannot just sign a new three or four-year contract and then disappear at the first opportunity," Kahn told DSF television.

"You have got to be professional, perform as best you can, show a reaction and give it 100%.

"After all, football is not a concert in which you get to pick your favourite songs."

Kahn has also commended his club for standing firm against the interest from Manchester United.

He added: "We want to reach our aims and we need all the good players we have got.

"We would definitely be ill-advised to give a player like Owen Hargreaves to our rivals like Manchester, AC Milan and the other big teams."

Meanwhile, United striker Louis Saha believes the summer sale of former team-mate Ruud van Nistelrooy to Real Madrid has weakened his club and strengthened their rivals.

Saha is convinced the Dutchman's departure is a bad thing for his club - even if it has given him the first-team chances he had lacked since arriving from Fulham in January 2004.

"When you lose a player capable of scoring 40 goals in one season, I don't think that giving him to Real Madrid is a good thing, considering we will face them at one point or another," said Saha.

"It is true that his departure will certainly allow me to play a little bit more and I take Sir Alex Ferguson's trust as a compliment, but I have always done my best whether Ruud is there or not. Nothing has changed for me."

Van Nistelrooy was gradually phased out of Ferguson's starting XI following Saha's dazzling return after enduring a lengthy absence because of a right knee injury.

"Things can go very fast, if I am not good enough someone else will take my place," added the 28-year-old, who has two goals in three league games this season.

"If I am good I try to hold onto my status and work hard. Competition makes you progress, always."

迪維斯：馬斯查蘭奴與我將投韋斯咸



據英國廣播公司報導，阿根廷前鋒迪維斯指他與隊長馬斯查蘭奴已同意加盟英超的韋斯咸。

兩名世界盃國腳均效力巴西的哥連泰斯，兩人將外借一年。

雖然傳出為阿仙奴及曼聯的目標，廿二歲的迪維斯在個人網頁上公布是次交易，指他與馬斯查蘭奴已和韋斯咸簽下合約。

據指韋斯咸與Media Sports Investments簽下合作協議，而這公司正正擁有兩名球員。

Rossi joins Magpies on loan



Newcastle have agreed terms with United to take Giuseppe Rossi on loan until 1 January 2007.

The Italian striker will link up with the Magpies immediately and, according to Sir Alex Ferguson, will gain some invaluable first team experience.

"It was a big decision for us especially as we don't have the choice of strikers," admitted the United boss. "But this is something that Giuseppe wanted as he needs regular first team football.

"When he returns he will be a more experienced player who will be able to offer us much more."

As a condition of all loan deals between Premiership clubs, the 19-year-old will not be allowed to play for Newcastle when they visit Old Trafford on 1 October.

Rossi joined United in July 2004 from Serie A side Parma. After impressing for the Reserves in his first few months at Old Trafford, he earned a well deserved call-up to the senior team.

His first team debut came in the Carling Cup victory over Crystal Palace in November 2004. He has since made a further 13 appearances, bagging four goals in the process.

Giggs rolls back the years



The 32-year-old Welshman made his 600th start for the Reds on Saturday and produced an impressive display to help United to a battling 2-1 victory over Premiership new boys Watford.

Giggs scored the vital second goal for the Reds at Vicarage Road, and Crerand was quick to display his admiration for the Welshman's staying power at the top of his profession.

"Ryan's playing like he did when he was 17 when he first came through," he told MUTV. "His fitness levels are amazing.

"He has been magnificent for United throughout his career, and the manager will be delighted with his performances so far this season."

Crerand also believes United can win the kind of games that cost the Reds the chance of really testing Chelsea's title resolve last season, with the win over Aidy Boothroyd's determined Hornets being a prime example.

"It was a real battle against, it was that type of game," he said. "You hate playing in those games if you are a footballing team. They are the sort of games we weren't winning last season and it was a great three points."

雷耶斯將落實投皇馬

曼城前鋒高爾加盟樸茨茅夫，雙方簽約兩年。

今次交易轉會費將可達一百萬英鎊，視乎該名三十四歲球員的上陣次數而定。

據報今次轉會令高爾賺取比起在曼城更高的薪水，據指其周薪將達四萬鎊。

曼城本希望留這名前紐卡素及曼聯前鋒，不過他去意已決。

自從在二○○一年離開曼聯後，他曾效力布力般、富咸及曼城
