Ferguson表示希望Heinze明日對利物浦可以上陣
Boss hails defensive warrior
Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping he will be able to count on Gabriel Heinze's warrior-like qualities for the visit of Liverpool on Sunday.
The Reds' left-back faces a race to be fit for the Old Trafford clash, but is making good progress in his recovery from the hamstring injury he sustained against Newcastle three weeks ago.
The United boss describes the 28-year-old as a "natural defender" and believes his unique battling style is what sets him apart from the rest.
"He's a real warrior," declared Sir Alex. "Gabby is a player who sets out in a football match to have a personal battle with anyone who comes into his area.
"That’s his competition, he creates the competition with whoever his opponent is and he’s fantastic at that, that’s what motivates him. He takes on personal battles very well plus he’s a natural defender and he likes defending."
Heinze's unwavering objective to protect his backline is such that, even in training, he shows no interest in venturing further upfield.
"A lot of defenders want to be centre forwards," stated the United boss. "You play little games at the end of a session on a Friday - [Fabien] Barthez used to love playing centre forward, as did [Peter] Schmeichel and centre halves love to play centre forward.
"But Gabby plays at the back all the time, he loves being a defender. You never see him up there trying to score goals, he’s always at the back, he just loves defending," he added. |
