United's missing midfield goal
Manchester United returned to goalscoring form away at Fulham last weekend but once again it was Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney who provided the bullets that despatched The Cottagers.
United's midfield, by contrast, has been firing blanks all season, something that should concern the coaching hierarchy at Old Trafford.
Chelsea's engine-room, in contrast, has already fired home 12 goals, a figure which represents two-thirds of the Blues' total this season.

This is a process which has been creeping up on United for a couple of seasons. In 2003-04, only unbeaten champions Arsenal saw a bigger contribution from midfield, but last season saw four teams accrue a greater haul of midfield goals as the Old Trafford side became embroiled in an increasingly defensive style of play.

The fact remains that while runaway Premiership leaders Chelsea have seen eight different players score for them in 2005-06, Manchester United have relied solely on van Nistelrooy and Rooney.
With players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs in their ranks, Manchester United should be looking at a healthy haul of goals from midfield, but with two months of the season completed, it has certainly been a slow start for that particular Old Trafford department.
