Roy Keane has announced his retirement from football because of injury.

In a statement, the Celtic midfielder player claimed he was quitting following medical advice.

In an announcement, the 34-year-old said: `Having received medical advice from my surgeon and the Celtic club doctor, I feel my only option is to retire.'

Keane confirmed the news on the Celtic website: `Having received medical advice from my surgeon and the Celtic FC doctor, I feel my only option is to retire.

`I would like to send the manager, the staff, players and supporters my very best wishes for the future.'

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan said: `Roy Keane is one of the greatest ever players to grace the game of football. It was fantastic we were able to bring him to Celtic and it has been a privilege to work with him.

`Even in his short time with the club, Roy made a great contribution and played an important part in bringing success to the club last season.

`We were delighted to make Roy's dream come true when we signed him for Celtic and we were happy when he made our dream come true, by helping us to win the title.

`While we would have very much liked Roy to continue for the remainder of his contract, everyone at the club fully understands and respects the decision which he has made.

`Roy's retirement will be a loss to Celtic and, of course, a loss to football in general. We would all like to wish Roy and his family all the best for the future. Roy will always be welcome at Celtic Park.

`Obviously, we will now be making sure we strengthen our midfield in time for the season ahead.'

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell added: `Clearly, everyone hoped we could have enjoyed watching Roy at Celtic for one more season. However, given the medical advice which he has received, Roy feels this is the only option available to him.

'While we are disappointed, it is important Roy's health comes first and we fully respect the decision which he has made.

`Despite losing Roy, our supporters can rest assured that we are working hard to strengthen the squad for next season to face the domestic and Champions League challenges which lie ahead.'

Keane made his debut for the Hoops in the Tennent's Scottish Cup third-round defeat by Clyde in January.

The transfer, however, represented the fulfilment of an ambition for the Irishman.

Keane's injury problems date back to September 1997 when he suffered a knee injury while trying to foul Leeds United's Alfie Haaland at Elland Road and missed the rest of the season with cruciate ligament damage.

In September 2002 Sir Alex Ferguson announced Keane will be out for three months after undergoing a hip operation.

In July 2005 Keane was left out of United's squad for tour of Far East due to hamstring injury and the following month Ferguson admits he had a row with Keane at United's pre-season training camp in Portugal in July.

Keane announced his international retirement in October 2005 and on November 1 his blunt assessment of the 4-1 Premiership humiliation at Middlesbrough was pulled off the MUTV schedules. Seventeen days later he left United by mutual consent and on December 15 he signed for Celtic in an 18-month deal.

我寧願佢專注番下青訓..
唔駛多..有番1~2件都夠
Let's wait for Spector, Rossi, Pique, F.Campbell, Luke Steele, Rictie and David Jones, P. Bradsley...and Fanzhou DONG

David Jones is pretty good..he played quite well in Dutch league...

其實曼聯班預備組唔係真係咁唔得
...
yeh...exactly..they are also the first team that can defend the reserve league champion title...
Wonder to see the performance of David Jones....
He is a centre midfield...Hope he can have a first team chance in next season~~

however, I quite worry about that...
yeh...you reminded me that Richard jones' case...that may probbly due to the club's relationship..
As David was playing in a club that had no agreement with Man U, if they did call him back, NAC would not loan him back again~~~ Royal Antwerp has an agreement with Man U, Man U can send  players  to Antwerp whenever they want, such as FanChou DONG...maybe that's the reason~~

I think David will be playing in Man U this season, like Richardson last season. As David played quite well in dutch League (14 App., 4 goals) The Dutch anaylsts all had pretty good comment on him~~~

Everything has to be confirmed after the World Cup......hope Man U could snap up a couple of good players in summer~~hey 迷途小羔羊, who do you think Man U will sign?
I think Carrick, Diarra and Aldo Duschler, any two out of three among them, will join Man U this summer
West Ham has completed to sign Jon spector of initial fee for 500,000 pounds...

damn......i think he is a good replacement for Gary Neville......speechless

West Ham have completed the signing of Jonathan Spector from Manchester United for an initial fee of £500,000.

The American-born defender, 20, made eight appearances for the Old Trafford club after joining the club in 2003. He spent the entirety of last season out on loan with Charlton, and only missed out on a place in the USA's World Cup squad after dislocating his shoulder.

West Ham commercial director Scott Duxbury told www.whufc.com: "We have worked very hard to secure this transfer as we believe Jonathan is going to be a big asset to West Ham United. We would like to welcome Jonathan to Upton Park and wish him all the very best for his future career here."

Meanwhile, West Ham striker Yaniv Katan has returned to Maccabi Haifa on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent move.

The Israel international, 25, moved to Upton Park from Maccabi in January but struggled to break into the first team with Dean Ashton, Marlon Harewood, Teddy Sheringham and Bobby Zamora ahead of him and he made just two Premiership starts.

According to West Ham, his wife struggled to adjust to life in London, so the club have agreed to let him move back to Israel.

幾睇好個個巴士尼都賣走左=.=""
Did Man u sell bradsley??

As i have checked on soccernet, there is no news about selling Bradsley but Jon Spector....

If they both are sold, that means Pique may start to be Gary's backup~~(Personally, he may play better at Centre~~)

我覺得曼聯而家最好掃哂祖記d勁人
好似保方,韋拉,查斯古特呢d
可能真係降班既,呢d球星一定走硬
Buffon may face a long suspension....and few Italian will likely play aboard~~
Vieira is around 30....not a long term investment Man U
I would prefer F.Torres rather than Trezeguet...as Torres' footwork is better than trezeguet~~

希~有乜所謂~反正雲達沙打埋今季都...
I'm not saying that Buffon is not a good player....the point is only few Italian player like to play outside Italy because the chance of being selected in Italy squad is nearly 0...as the national coach will watch the ITALIAN league only...the coach doesnt care the player outside Italy
Originally posted by 迷途小羔羊 at 2006-6-20 08:51 PM:

我又唔認為保方會因為轉投其他非意...
that's so true , probably in the coming 3 to 4 years,  Buffon is the best Italian Keeper ....but that would cost Man U 20+M for  Buffon...We all know the Glazers family is a penny-pinching family...they wont give you extra money...even they signed the biggest sponsorship earlier...i think the chance of signing Buffon is quite narrow...

I hope Rossi can have fly high in Man U, or even in Italy National Team......
but he has to play more in the Premier league matches rather than League cup or reserve league...and need to build up his bony body~~
