Torres stays in Madrid
Fernando Torres has ended speculation linking him with a move to United by announcing that he will stay with Atletico Madrid.

The Spanish striker, who had been strongly tipped to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy at Old Trafford, held a press conference in Madrid on Tuesday morning.

There, the 22-year-old said: "I want to stay. A lot has been said during my holidays about my possible exit, but the reality is that I am here for one more year."

Despite the fevered speculation linking Torres with Old Trafford, Sir Alex Ferguson has stressed that his main priority is to strengthen United's midfield department.
