Carlos Tevez has admitted that an English club is close to sealing his signature from Corinthians.
The Argentine striker is still in his homeland after leaving Brazil last week following the league clash with Botafogo.
Corinthians insist that Tevez is AWOL - but now the player says that Kia Joorabchian, chief of MSI, the investment firm that runs the South American club - has given him permission to be absent.
Brazilian reports had suggested that Tevez had travelled back to Sao Paulo, but speaking from Buenos Aries the 22-year-old says he needs to quit Corinthians for the sake of his family.
"I decided to leave Brazil because the club has promised many things to me and they didn't do them," he said.
"I kept on playing but now I decided to leave Brazil because my family has suffered a lot.
"As Kia knows that the club didn't do any of the things they had promised he felt guilty and gave me an authorisation for staying in Buenos Aires until August 31 but it could even be for more time. I have a document signed by Kia where it says that I have his permission. I want to be some time calm with my family."
Tevez confirmed transfer talks were ongoing, with Chelsea seemingly looking like favourites to seal his signature ahead of Manchester United, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Milan.
"I know that there are some negotiations for transferring me to a European team, specially to an English one," he confirmed.
"But I don't have any problem in playing for Corinthians. I would do it only for the supporters. If they want me to go back I will, but many things would have to change.
"In the meantime Boca offered me the chance to train with their team but I am doing it at home. I want to be fit for the match that we [Argentina] will play against Brazil next weekend in London."
Chelsea have long been interested in snapping up Tevez and MSI chief Joorabchian is known to be close to Blues owner Roman Abramovich - although any formal link between the Russian and the investment company have always been firmly denied.
However, reports continue to intensify that the Blues could land Tevez and then loan him to French side Rennes.
Rennes manager Pierre Dreossi denied that Tevez was on his way to the club, but admitted anything could happen before next week's transfer deadline.
"Carlos Tevez is not a trail for Rennes. But I don't say it could not be settled. Between today and August 31, the market will be crazy," said Dreossi.
"There is nothing sorted out with any player. In attack, we already have a lot of solutions in our present group. We rather miss something than someone.
"But we have good relationship with Chelsea. The player we will hire is not unknown." |
